BEST-JOB.pngaskrichardinternetbadge1-300x294.jpgThe Australian Interactive Media Industry Association (AIMIA), Australia’s peak industry body for digital and interactive content, last night honoured the 25 winners of its 16th Annual AIMIA Awards at a glitzy Melbourne ceremony, bringing together over 400 industry leaders, including Senator Stephen Conroy, Minister for Broadband, Communications and the Digital Economy.

The big winners of the night included Tourism Queensland’s ‘Best job in the world’ campaign via CumminsNitro, Brisbane, which won three awards including Best of the Best and FBi Radio ‘Ask Richard via Naked, Sydney, which won four awards including People’s Choice.

Host Mikey Robbins and performance group Vospertron kept the crowdentertained and speeches were delivered by Senator Conroy, AIMIApresident Guy Gadney and AIMIA CEO John Butterworth.

Gadney used his speech to highlight the way digital is changing theworld around us. “What excites me about our digital industry is that itforces us to think differently about the world we operate in. All of ushere tonight, we are the leaders of digital media in Australia. We maynot think we are, but it is our responsibility to partner withtraditional companies to bring them on a transformational journey. Itis our responsibility to build the bridges between old business modelsand new audiences.”

The awards continue to expand with 25 categories represented in 2010 ranging from retail to government, sport to content for children. The16th Annual AIMIA Awards feature a record number of categories withthree new accolades: Best Sport, Best Online Video and People’s Choice.

John Butterworth, AIMIA CEO praised the success of the AustralianDigital community. “Every year, more and more Aussie digital companiesare taking their products and services to the world, doinginternational deals and setting up shop in the US, China, the UK andEurope.  We’re here tonight to recognise and celebrate the talent andefforts of those who are not only the leaders in our own market, butever increasingly taking Australian digital know-how and can-do to theworld.”

“And yet we seem to be doing all this despite our small market size, our geographic location and, particularly, our woeful broadbandinfrastructure, which should make us a digital backwater. Lookingaround here tonight, clearly we’re not. And when our new NationalBroadband Network starts coming online, we’re going to be catapultedtowards the head of the global digital class.”
