Behind-the-Scenes: how the Old Spice videos are being made with a new one every seven minutes

An article on ReadWriteWeb by Marshall Kirkpatrick takes us behind-the-scenes at the Old Spice video marathon. He describes how a team ofcreatives, tech geeks, marketers and writers gathered in an undisclosedlocation in Portland, Oregon yesterday and produced 87 short comedic YouTubevideos about Old Spice in real time. Those videos and 74 more made so far today havenow been viewed more than four million times and counting. The team worked for11 hours yesterday to make 87 short videos, that’s just over seven minutes pervideo, not accounting for any breaks taken.
Eric Kallman, one of the keyWieden + Kennedy copywriters on the Old Spice campaign told CB that theTwitter/YouTube videos have now finished after a marathon session today, whichfinished at 5pm Portland time. Kallman is also the writer of some of the best Skittles spots when he was at TBWA\Chiat\Day, New York.

Grand prix film 2009. Titanium 2010?
Well done you clever fuckers -your layout pads are now diamonds.
Hands down, could easily break Best Jobs’ record for Grand Prix wins.
cunts.
and i mean that in the nicest possible way.
I’ve got a job in my retail DM dept if you want one Mr Kallman.
And, unlike Best Jobs, it’s not a fluke.
Bitter much 9.59?
I don’t think anyone’s biter about best job 10.38
But he has a point, these guys have made a campaign that far exceeds the longevity of best job.
this is stunning. I’d like to know how the fuck they got clients plus lawyers plus suits all working so effectively
because
1 it’s wiedens
2 the client trusts the agency
These guys = Mozart.
Everyone else in the business = Salieri.
Fuck this stuff is great. Not good, not really good, not even really fucking good. But great.
It’s so great, you immediately skip over the jealousy part and go straight to reverence. No matter how good the brief, no matter how good the client, no matter how big the budget… this was done by two guys, a blank piece of paper and an untitled word document.
Inspiring.
