Award-winning UK ‘Give a few Bob’ writer Alan Curson joins Hothouse, Sydney as head of copy
Alan Curson, the creative behind the multi award-winning UK campaign for the Prostate Cancer Research Foundation, is joining HotHouse in Sydney. He takes on a creative director role within the agency, overseeing copy and spearheading brands such as Toyota, Amaysim, and Hollard.
Curson’s work has been recognised at all the major awards including Cannes, Campaign Press, Campaign Posters, British Television Awards, Campaign Big Awards, DMA Awards, IMCC Awards, Marketing Society Awards, Marketing Week Awards, MAA Worldwide Global Awards, ISP Awards, Precision Marketing, MCCA, Midsummer Awards, Creative Circle, Revolution, The Viral Awards and D&AD.
Says Curson: “I’m really looking forward to working at HotHouse. The digital space is such an exciting arena right now and the opportunities to create immersive, integrated online experiences are mouth watering”, he said. His recent work featuring the late comedian, Bob Monkhouse was the only British entrant in its year to pick up a gold Lion.
“We’re really lucky to have him on board”, said Xander Black, creative director of HotHouse. “We’ve had a long working relationship and bounce ideas well off each other. He has the sort of credentials an above the line agency would look for in appointing a creative director, there aren’t many copywriters with his experience and recognition, willing or able to work across all media disciplines. It’s another sign of the growing importance of digital as the heart of integrated communications.”
Says Simon van Wyk, founder of Hothouse: “At last it’s clear campaigns should all start with digital. The future of advertising is about communications that start on the web and drive traditional media and not the other way around. We’re delighted to have Alan on board. He’s an adult with the background and experience to lead Australia’s most important brands online.”

An exceptional writer and a top bloke. Good luck!
Few Australians, particularly of the current yoof generation will have heard of him, but he’s a top man. A strange choice of agency, though. Never heard of them.
