ZOO Melbourne ECD and partner Alex Wadelton is selling what might be the world’s most connected car (using the six degrees of Kevin Bacon method).
Wadelton is selling his Nonno’s 1997 Mitsubishi Lancer, a car with connections to Winston Churchill, Adolf Hitler, John F Kennedy, Benito Mussolini, Elvis Presley, Michael Jackson and many, many more.
The bidding starts at $800.00.

It’s all very well to flex your creative muscles with this highly fanciful wankathon, but the sort of person in the market for that sort of car has no interest in its history beyond how many previous owners it had, what its odometer reading is, whether it’s been crashed, has rust, has serious oil leaks, is stolen, has a roadworthy certificate and whether the price is negotiable.
But perhaps Alex has plans to enter the ad in one of the many awards going.
Which takes me back to the’w’ word in the first line of my critique.
It’s not currently looking good for an Effie.

Firstly, The Brutal Truth, have you possibly thought that the exact reason I wrote it is what you’re arguing against?
Every car ad is exactly the same, and I was just having a thought about my Nonno and the interesting life he lead. So, why not take people on a little bit of a journey? Is it really that harmful to tell a story? Is it so bad that people who would never stop and think about all the connections we have might read something that makes them think a bit?
Life doesn’t have to be so negative. Life is to be enjoyed and the cynicism and bitterness you display makes me feel a bit sad for you and your choices in life.
I put it up here to see if people in a creative industry of ours would also like to think about something with open eyes and ears. Soz.
Yes, it is quite long, but often people read these things called sentences that are often contained in paragraphs to tell a story. I like to read things. I reckon others do as well.
Anyway, I hope everyone enjoys their weekend, and appreciates the wonder of the world, instead of trying to find negative things to moan about.
I know that’s how my Nonno lived.
But Alex isnt this the same idea as Wicked BMX some years ago???

Is it really the “same” idea to write a creative Ebay ad? I think creatively they’re actually REALLY different. What your saying is like comparing 2 print ads, and saying it’s the same idea because… They’re both print ads. I doubt wicked sick was the first ever creative ebay ad either. Probably one of the funniest, but likely not the first.

Actually I sold it on Saturday to an eBay bidder. I did it direct with him, just so you know. We had a good chat about the ad. Sadly doing it that way I could put SOLD into it. I can send you a picture of the cash if you want 🙂
And yes the idea is exactly the same as wicked sick, just like tsubi jeans are the same as Levi’s, which are the same as cotton on, which are the same as diesel jeans, which are the… you get the drift.
