‘The Amys’? That’s not true. I’ve never heard them referred to like that by anyone in the industry. Seems like a total fabrication to get some Grammy, Emmy, Webby coolness factor.
I’m with 5.41 on this one. No one in the industry knows these as The Amys. It is a stupid name, more befitting an indie band from the mid-90’s. A rock solid third-tier everyone-gets-a-prize award scheme like this deserves a much more memorable name, like “the AIMIA’s”
Where are the traditional agencies? Amazing that most are further marginalising themselves by not participating in these (except the progressive ones). Funny. 9.41 your comment says a lot.
It was only a matter of time until someone leapt to the defense of these awards. In answer to your question, 12.20 (I suspect your non de plume should really read “non-traditional”), the traditional agencies are probably busy putting the finishing touches to their online entries for D&AD, Cannes, and the US shows, where it is harder to impress the judges and where a finalist therefore actually means something.
Oh, come on everyone, there’s room at the table for us all… for the time being, anyway.
