After 10 years talking about it, Richard Maddocks finally to take time out to write that novel
Outgoing Clemenger BBDO Sydney ECD – who has also just resigned as AWARD chairman – tells Campaign Brief he’s taking some time off to write a book: “Yeah I’ve decided to head back to New Zealand and take some time out to write a novel. Or drive myself crazy trying.
“I know it’s a bit of a cliché, however I promise the protagonist isn’t some bloke in advertising. I’ve been going on about doing this for a good ten years or so so I figure it’s about time to shut up and start writing. We’ll see how it goes and take it from there.”
Maddocks will continue with the Clemenger Group until August, before returning to NZ.

Good onya rich. There’s more to life then advertising.
Living the dream!
Clearly has a bit of coin stashed away.
he’s always had a great book
On another note (sorry but I need some help), does anyone know how I can contact Mick Hunter and Ian Morton?
Sorry to change the subject, but would appreciate feedback. Thanks.

You could start by writing how the All Whites are going to beat the Socceroos at the MCG this Monday.
Rich has already had a hand in one book—a charity recipe book for a school in Auckland. It was a blinder (and no, I’m not being sarcastic).
A book about Adwankers?
Good to see an Aussie returning to NZ. You’re one of the bros now PFFFFHOOO!
get back to work 5:31 (jen)
Don’t you know no-one reads copy any more?
on ya rich.
good luck mate.
Good luck mate enjoy your time away.
Rollins has written a heap, so did Courtney – best of luck mate, it’s not impossible, just takes time and graft –
Wonder who his favourute authors are?
The amount of effort we pour into one campaign, in the right hands, would be an Edgar Allen Poe or a Sergeant Peppers in another’s.
There should be a ‘Like’ button on the blog.
you’re after the illustrious ‘AM’ title, arnt’ you?…or…no. not the ‘OAM’??

I feel a chubby coming on – go the chubster!
G’day 5.31, thanks for the info re Mick and Ian. Their websites down so I thought after Tropfest they might have teamed up with Russell Crowe and gone to Hollywood. Got a job for them, thanks.
As for Ricky Maddock’s, just fess up cuzzy bro, you’re really Ricky Pontings cuzzy bro. Bye bye cuzzy bro.
I know it is not kosher to say something not anonymous, let alone “nice”, but it has been a pleasure to work with Mr Maddocks as Chairman of AWARD,
He was a true believer of AWARD and put his heart and head into moving it forward.
I am sure the book will be a treat, my only ignored advice was to hire a team of writers to expand upon his plot and character arc.
After all, has he not seen his hourly rate….
wishing best mister

Ha ha ha ha… You idiot!
I think it is disgusting and shameful the way advertising people assume they have a book in them just because they have written an ad or two. Invariably they don’t.
Here’s a particularly egregious example:

Good on you Richard for making the move.
You have been an excellent Chairman of AWARD and a rarity in the business- a gentleman. Good fortune to you for the next chapter in your career.
I’m 113, 761 words into mine.
good on you mate, see you back in NZ.
An absolute champion bloke, and an outstanding CD.
Wish you all the best, mate.
Well, of course Joseph Heller wrote Catch 22 while he was working in an ad agency. Peter Carey and Bryce Courtney were also ad people. (And never seem to stop selling – especially themselves.) So why not?
The one thing I’d say is, why shouldn’t you have an adman as a character? Carey did with his first book. And then you’d be writing about something you know. Fleming didn’t write Bond novels totally off the top of his head – he had experience in the field. And, of course, Heller was with a bombing crew in Italy during the war, so he likewise built his novel on experience.
I HAVE written a novel about advertising. Specifically, it’s about a bunch of kids who start their own agency. It’s called Mosquito Advertising and it’ll be in bookshops from this Monday.
Go Rich, you could write about Taco
The skeleton, grouse to see you again, having a ball
Sue- st vinnies nurse
