Advertising kids make movie ‘First Love’
Ex copywriter and producer Fran Derham and CI Studios Photographer Clare Plueckhahn (pictured) have made a movie. This producing/directing duo ‘Cos We Can’ teamed up Claire Gorman, a filmer from Phillip Island, to put together a girls surfing documentary in mid 2009.
‘First Love’, a 60 minute feature, follows the lives of three passionate young girls from Phillip Island and documents their trip to Hawaii – the first step on their journey to making a career out of surfing.
The film took out Best Documentary and Emerging Filmmaker awards at X-Dance, an x-treme sports festival that runs alongside Sundance, in February this year and is screening in Cinemas nationally at the moment. Fran wrote and produced the film, while Clare art directed, shot stills and did water footage. The Directors Group’s Craig Griffin helped steer the film as executive producer.

Working with Final Sound, XYZ Studios, and Crayon in Post Productionthe girls have put together a fresh piece that breaks the mould ofAustralian Cinema.
The pair are busy creating content forbrands around the country as well as putting together a TV Series setto hit the screens towards the end of next year.
Check out the filmtrailer and find out exactly where it’s screening on their website – and make sure you get down to support the dream.
