‘Share a Coke’ campaign attempts to break world record at the Vodafone Boxing Day Test match
Coca-Cola and Cricket Australia invite Matts and their mates to “Share a COKE” at Day 3 Vodafone Boxing Day Test and set a Guinness World Records title.
They are taking the “Share a COKE” campaign to “worldly” new heights by asking Australians named Matt to help them set a Guinness World Records title.
Anyone with the first given name Matt who registers online and comes to MCG on Day 3 of the Vodafone Boxing Day Test (28 December), will receive two FREE tickets for them and a mate if they participate in the attempt.
Coca-Cola and Cricket Australia aim to fill four bays in the MCG with at least 1,100 Matts for
the attempt, which is being undertaken as part of the ‘Share a COKE’ campaign encouraging
people to share a COKE with their friends and loved ones.
Now, Coca-Cola is putting the spotlight on Matts and encouraging them to share a COKE with their mates at the cricket whilst attempting to break the record for the Largest Same Name Gathering.
“Matt is one of the most popular names in Australia. This is a great opportunity for Aussies to
catch-up with a Matt, participate in a Guinness World Records attempt and enjoy a fun day at
the cricket with their mate,” said Lucie Austin, marketing director, Coca-Cola South Pacific.
Matts will need to register with Coca-Cola and Guinness World Records at 7am on Day 3 of
the Vodafone Boxing Day Test outside gate 5 of the MCG with a valid photo ID.
Matts will then enter the stadium in an attempt to break the current record for the Largest Same Name Gathering, which stands at 1,096 Mohammads, achieved as part of the Dubai Shopping Festival in 2005.
Mates will enjoy the pre-match entertainment outside the venue and then join the Matts once
the attempt is complete. Matts and mates will then enjoy one of the year’s biggest Test
matches in a specially zoned section within MCG compliments of Coca-Cola and Cricket
Australia.
So c’mon Australia, if you know a Matt, Matthew, Mateus (or are one) help make history – find
a Matt and get involved.

Discriminates against the non Matt’s!!!
Pretty sure there are more than 1,096 Mohammads at Mecca every year
Lost the plot. Take a serious look at yourself.
Ap[art from Mecca i bet there were heaps more Mohammeds at about 50 football games in the middle east, north africa over the years.
But more importantly what a stupid record.
You’ve definitely won that one Coke. Champions of Stupidity.
Matt has to work over Christmas. Sorry
I fail to see the record, is it people with the same name in one place, people with same name drinking a soft drink in the same place, or drinking a coke in the same place?
It’s dumb but once again it will get heaps of earned media so job done.
Yeah this campaign keeps kicking goals so this probably will too. But I agree with macca. Why? What?
There would be more matts in sydney.
Was just in Pitt Street Mall and the ‘Place – Your – Name – On – a – Coke – Bottle’ line was at least 200 deep. They were gagging for it.
Baffles me as well, but it seems to work.
As if its going to go 3 days. The Aussie cricket team are shit.
Realist might just be over-rating the Indians. They’re very, very old and have NEVER won a series in Australia. NEVER.
Though it does make me thing that maybe a coke named Sachin would have done well over the five days.
This is such a cool idea.
People are often stupid. Lining up to get your name on a Coke can is stupid.
But I do like it when the runner writes your name on your water bottle on shoots, that’s okay.
if you are a creative and you think this is a stupid idea you need to get out more and understand people better or your career will go nowhere.
From the people that brought you the KFC chicken dance at last year’s test.
Let me guess MB, you’ll be there?
It’s a great idea and it’s doing well. Congratulations to the people at Ogilvy for executing Chris Ford’s idea…and only Chris Ford’s idea.
