Carlton Dry says “Hello Beer” in new marketing campaign via Clemenger BBDO Melbourne
Clemenger BBDO Melbourne has created a new summer campaign for Carlton Dry called ‘Hello Beer’.
The new campaign stays true to the great Carlton Dry tradition of doing whatever, whenever and having an awesome time with your mates by saying hello to beer and goodbye to the mundane.
Says CUB general manager of marketing Andy Meldrum: “Hello Beer recognises that life’s best moments are shaped by random fun and forgetting about the day-to-day obligations which hold you back. As we head into summer and Aussies have a break from a year’s hard work at the office, there’s no better time to let go and say hello to a refreshing Carlton Dry with your mates.”
Each execution features a call-to-action for young Aussies to live in the now and focus on the realisation that you’re only young once.
The national campaign will run through summer with TV sponsorship, radio, print, ambient and outdoor channels in major cities.

Boooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooring
Social media! Yiewwww!
I think they are choice as. Why would you try to intellectualise an ad about beer. Barney please share an ad that defines “exciting” for you.
There’s a nice thought there. Would have loved to have a go at art direction – but hey, everyone’s a critic. Bet it moves a few palettes this summer.
That’s a lot of people working on one press release.
MAAAATTTTEEEESSS
BEEEEEEEEEEEEER
hello beer, goodbye water-with-beer carlton dry
BBDO New York used this ‘Hello beer’ for Red Stripe
Hellooooooooooo Federal!
Yet another aussie beer ad that offers a category generic pov/audience ‘insight’, wrapped in a crap and predictable tone of voice.
@de ja vue …. I think you might be thinking of BBDO’s “Hooray Beer” work for Red Stripe, which was often awesome.
As for “Hello Beer”, if it gets good support in pubs/bottle shops and people start using the phrase (a la “Wassup!”) and it sell more Carlton Dry, then it will be a great, simple idea doing it’s job IMHO.
Fails to position the beer, while at the same reinforcing all the bad social messages that go with beer – let’s got out and get pissed and do stupid stuff.
Young Aussie males. They love their mates, and they love their beer. Socialising is important to them. They use Facebook.
Sweet jesus. Time for planners to face the wall.
Cool art direction.
Feels like pitch work
Is that Nick Kelly?
Generic campaign theme. Funny, well written ads.
Makes me want to go out.
Doesn’t make me want to buy beer.
Five Cougars, thanks!

Yeah, you’re right.
But you know what? That’s what people WANT to associate beer with. Not having a quiet stubbie and a chat.
I saw the destiny billboard while stuck at the lights the other day-made me laugh made me want to have a coldie . It’s been a while since a beer poster has had that effect -job done well done
terrible.
nice lines dudes
You may be right, Account Circus, but advertisers have to take some responsibility for what they do. Especially with a Federal Government that is always looking for ways to take the heat off its incompetence by hitting out at easy targets – like our industry, and especially like beer marketers. And this ad, apart from saying nothing about the product itself, gives critics an easy target. Do the people in it look over 25? Are they
I like the Destiny vs Beer thought. Great territory for sure.
Not sure if they’ve really nailed it though.
bye byyyyyyyyyyeeeee. Turn over read the next page.
Will be interesting to see what happens with Foster’s beer brands next year. SAB Miller was very clear during the takeover that they felt the marketing of the brands was pretty poor, and a clear area of improvement.
These are nice, but incredibly generic. They’re beer ads, selling beer to people who like to drink beer.
Trouble is, there’s a fuckload of beers out there and this doesn’t really do anything to make me want to preference Dry.
Words and art direction very nice. Planning/client fucked up though. Zero brand insight. Zero.
SAB Miller would probably prefer their marketing dollars promote their brands more than simply the category.
If I was the client on this, I probably wouldn’t be rushing in to show it off to my new south african masters. They’ll tear him a new one.
I’m glad there was a press release to explain these ads to me because I wouldn’t have a clue what they were trying to say.
‘Have fun’ seems to be the message.
Doesn’t look to me like anyone drinks beer though, they’re all on pills.
Must have an excessive media budget to be able to afford the Anzac Bridge billboard and use such dull creative?
Just found a hello beer in a 10 pack….. Winning!
i baught a stubby with HELLO BEER on it unreal it will go in my colection of my man stuff !!!!! good one CUB
