Publicis Mojo retains $8 million Eagle Boys
Australia’s second largest pizza maker Eagle Boys Pizza has confirmed that its incumbent ad agency Publicis Mojo, Brisbane will once again provide the pizza player’s above-the-line creative services.
The announcement follows a five-month tender process where several leading agencies were invited to submit proposals in a bid to win the $8 million contract.
Publicis Mojo has worked with Eagle Boys since 2007 on many advertising concepts, including the controversial new campaign that confirms some large multinational pizza chains are selling pizzas up to 15% # smaller than Eagle Boys’ pizzas.
Says Eagle Boys Pizza group executive marketing: “Publicis Mojo had demonstrated it was best in class throughout the tender process. Eagle Boys was looking for a like-minded creative agency that shared the same passion and vigour to move the brand forward, and Publicis Mojo was the clear winner throughout the tender process.
It was a rigorous process where agencies were briefed at the end of February and given until May to submit proposals, with finalists invited back for presentations at the end of June.
With a focus on expansion and innovation during the next few years, Eagle Boys needs an agile and mischievous agency that can work closely with our in-house marketing team to drive the brand and develop memorable, tongue-in-cheek strategic campaign activities.”
Publicis Mojo will now be responsible for creating the overall brand direction for Eagle Boys during the next two years, producing above-the-line creative and the media component of the marketing strategy. Its contract does not include below-the-line creative, digital marketing strategy development and implementation, or print.

This was never a real pitch. In another article the marketing manager is quoted as having selected Mojo on their digital credentials, yet this article reports digital is not part of the scope! What a crock and what a bad client for putting so many agencies through months of work when (as everyone in the Brisbane market knew) it was never moving anyway.
So twenty agencies’ time was wasted so they could reappoint the incumbents.
Giant fishing expedition.
Disgraceful!
I hope the rest of the work they do for Eagle Boys is more original than this Gold Lion rip off for FedEx. http://adartin.wordpress.com/2009/03/09/fedex-box/

Any client that invites more than 3 agencies to pitch hasn’t bothered to do their homework, and shouldn’t be taken seriously.
Any client who lets the pitch process stretch on for 5 months has no idea what they want, and shouldn’t be taken seriously.
Any client that asks their incumbent to re-pitch is playing power games, and shouldn’t be taken seriously.
Eagle Boys sound like a bit of a joke really.
Great work Mojo peeps. No matter what the haters say I know it was a heck of alot of work, sweat and tears for you to keep this account and you guys deserve every flyer, banner ad and 15″ retail spot you get to make!
Hey Chelsea – and this isn’t a wind-up: the only thing people are ‘hating’ on here is that this type of bullshit pitch process – which, without question, undoubtedly did indeed cost ‘a heck of a lot of work, sweat and tears’ – is allowed to perpetuate in the Australian market out of a tragic combination of ego-driven client games (and inexperience, as noted by 3:47), and sickening sycophancy from desperate agencies.
Hey Chelsea if they worked as hard as you say then they deserve better than those clowns who put them through that pitch. Cleaning stables would be more rewarding, and quite possibly involve a similar product. Grow a brain girl and fight for a decent advertising and marketing industry which shuns these predatory birds.
