Coastguard NZ to conduct live rescue mission this Sunday at 3.40pm (Eastern Australian time)

coastguard_ss2.jpgKiwis will be watching out for a Coastguard NZ experiental event which is taking place thisweekend, organised by DDB New Zealand.  In essence they’re going to conduct a live rescue missionthat relies on the public to help find a capsized vessel and its crewwithin two hours.

On Sunday 31 January at 3.40pm (Eastern Australian time), real time footage shot in first personwill air on TV One in NZ. The POV footage will put viewers into the shoes ofa Coastguard volunteer at the start of a rescue operation to find thecapsized boat somewhere in the expanse of the Hauraki Gulf. Viewerswill be directed to www.liverescue.co.nz to join the search effort, where they’ll find themselves in a simulatedCoastguard Air Patrol search plane, scouring the New Zealand coastlinein real time for the missing vessel.

coastguard_ss1.jpgCoastguard will be putting four crew (in wetsuits) in an upturned vesselequipped with a GPS tracker for two hours – people participating in thesearch have only two hours to try and locate the boat before thechances of survival significantly diminish.

 

Throughout the night there will be further television updates givingpeople more information to help with their online search, with radiolisteners also invited to join the mission.
