getfile.jpgAIMIA today announced the finalists for its 19th Annual Awards with 130 entries selected as finalists across 22 categories. Winners of the awards will be announced in Sydney on Friday 15th March 2013 when digital leaders from around the country will come together to celebrate the industry’s top talent.

AIMIA Awards judging chair, Paul McCarthy commented on the impressive range of finalist entries this year, highlighting mobile as an area of particular strength due to an increase in tablet and smartphone applications.

“While using the internet and interactive media to source ideas from the public is not new, one finalist this year has taken the concept of crowdsourcing to a new level. In an advertising campaign for car insurance, NRMA built a real car from parts that other insurers didn’t cover.

“At the opposite end of the spectrum, two innovative projects draw strength from the more old fashioned approach of ‘celebsourcing’. One enables easy access to celebrity chef recipes through an open-source website called Eat Love. Another successful celebsourcing project involved St Vincent de Paul’s running a national in-store ‘treasure hunt’ for shirts autographed by world famous musicians to attract a new generation of Vinnies customers through Facebook page Signed Finds.

“Across the board we’ve also seen a major tech trend this year with the continued rise of excellent projects using outdoor screens. The breathtaking GE Two Words for Tomorrow project in data visualisation and Soap Creative and Finch’s cheeky augmented reality Lynx World’s First Invisible Ad for Lynx were two standout entries.”

Known affectionately as “The Amys,” the AIMIA awards celebrate the best work of Australia’s digital content, services and applications industry across a broad range of consumer, business, government and not-for-profit categories.

The People’s Choice Award will be open for voting by the general public from the 31st January 2013. Further details are available on the AIMIA website or by signing up to the awards mailing list here.
