Bundaberg gets cutting edge treatment in sparkling new spot via Publicis Mojo, Brisbane
Cutting Edge has again demonstrated its ‘value-add’ creative thinking in a stunning new spot for Publicis Mojo, Brisbane and Bundaberg Sparkling Selection.
The spot features an imaginary world where everything is created from sparkling crystal, including four women sitting beside an ocean of jewels extending to the horizon of a late afternoon sky. The setting sun – a large crystalline hotspot – shoots rays across the surface of the water and glistens off the crystal waves.
With little to work with in terms of reference or precedence, the Cutting Edge VFX team embarked on weeks of intensive R&D to create the look they were after. The team then designed and created the entirely CG crystal world, taking colourpalette inspiration from the Sparkling Selection drink flavours.
The stylised look was achieved by replicating reflection and refraction physics of real crystals. The design of the characters and environment was approached on a shot by shot basis, as the scale of the facets was determined by their distance from the virtual camera. If the facets were too small, the result was too busy, if they were too big, everything looked ‘chunky’.
Zenon Kohler, Cutting Edge VFX Director, said that since no ‘real’ product was featured in this animation, one of the biggest creative challenges was to create a CG version of the drink that poured like real liquid but looked like crystal:”Our resident RealFlow expert, Phil Jackson,
stepped up to the challenge and produced a brilliant result”, said Kohler.
“This TVC was a massive leap of faith on the part of the client, and we are grateful for their trust in our creativity and expertise. We’ll always embrace the opportunity to enhance the creative product by developing innovative techniques”, he said.

Nice effect.
I agree ANDY – such a fresh effect they should call it the Droga5 effect !
Both are heaps fresh!
Nice effect. Shame about the idea.
bad music.. bad vo.
I’m perpetually amazed by how many Australian TV campaigns are solely based on a technique or effect… especially given that the quality of post is so appallingly mediocre here (yeah, yeah, i know, tight budgets etc etc… all the more reason not to rely on an effect, no?)
nice work Zenon … I like it.
shit
Freakin’ sweet. Something different in TVC land!
I like it – very cool effect –
stands out amongst all of the cheesy annoying ads!!
