Meat and Livestock Australia ‘throws another steak on the barbie’ in new campaign via BMF
Nothing quite gets Aussie’s blood boiling like the “Throw another shrimp on the barbie” taunt so Meat and Livestock Australia, via agency BMF, have launched a movement to tell the world once and for all that Australians barbecue beef.
Fronted by funny man Merrick Watts, the campaign launches with a TV spot urging Australians to sign a Facebook petition to set the record straight – with the line “I’ll throw another steak on the barbie for you”. In less than 24 hours the ad had already hit more than half a million views on YouTube.
The movement is supported by TV, social media, radio, point of sale and events all geared towards stoking the Aussie love of beef on the barbecue and inspiring the nation to shout it to the world.
Says Andrew Cox, group marketing manager at Meat & Livestock Australia: “Nothing fits the Aussie BBQ like steak. This campaign marks a natural and more assertive step in the evolution of our summer beef campaign.”
Says Laura Sampedro and Carlos Alija, joint executive creative directors at BMF: “Ideas that resonate within a nation’s culture are ideas that get people talking and acting. Every country has some false cliché they are taunted with, but this campaign actually empowers Australians to help set the record straight and tell the world what they’re really about.”

Funny and smart idea, guys. I can’t believe you hit all those views in just a weekend.
why pr this?
bmf, pls explain?
does somebody over there think this is good?
Hey look, they started a movemenzzzzzzzzzzzz
Pushing 700,000 views over the weekend?
*cough*
I didn’t realise steak was so popular in India.
688,000 views and only 200 likes?
The cynical amongst us would say someone’s been using a bot to artificially inflate their views.
funny man?
You really think you can make that up? Then how is it that crappy ideas with big budgets behind don’t get as many views? You nailed it this time BMF. Hats off to my ex colleagues.
This is one of those ideas you see and think “I can’t believe no one did this earlier”… such a simple idea… well done guys. Can’t wait to see what’s next.
look it went viral mum!

It’s still a cool ad and I’ll bet it didn’t cost a bomb.
It’s a great idea; not sure what the viral appeal of the ad is though.
It’s lame…
the ad is dull.
but it’s not really about that.
it’s about the idea of taking back that phrase which is kinda cool.
I have extensively travelled around the world and never heard anyone quote that Paul Hogan line. You’re more likely to hear “That’s not a knife” So this is a campaign built on a made up truism. Lame and lazy I’m afraid.
