200 of Brisbane’s advertising industry enjoyed a taste of Cannes at ‘Brisbannes’ last Thursday
The who’s who of Brisbane’s marketing community enjoyed a little taste of Cannes on Thursday night at the inaugural Brisbannes event.
Backed by The Communications Council and jointly hosted by Brisbane’s member advertising agencies, over 200 of the city’s top marketers gathered at the Palace Barracks Cinema on Thursday night, June 14th to enjoy some of this year’s Cannes contenders from around the globe.
Brisbannes was created by Jonathan Drapes, creative director of Junior and George Patterson Y&R creative group head, Brendan Greaney, (pictured left to right) as a forum for the city’s marketing community to come together in a spirit of co-operation to discuss creativity and its link to effectiveness.
Says Greaney: “As creatives, we’re continuously exposed to world class work in international award
shows. We wanted Brisbane’s marketers, as a group, to experience the same work and share the motivation.
“At the end of the night, we had clients walking out together waxing lyrical about great creative.”
Guests on the night also heard from two keynote speakers, both of whom have had recent success
at Cannes. They were Matt Bruhn, the marketing director responsible for Bundaberg Rum’s ‘Watermark’ campaign, which won Gold and Silver Lions in 2011 as well as Mark Sareff, the
strategic planner behind Tontine’s ‘Dated Pillows’ work, which picked up two Silver Lions.
Says Greaney: “Lots of agencies have had Cannes nights, the key here was to get all of Brisbane’s marketers together in one place and present creativity from their point of view.”
The event was supported by – Adshel, Colmar Brunton, Channel 9, News Queensland and Nova 106.9. Brisbannes was supported by GPY&R, Junior, Cartel Film Production, Corbis Images, Cutting Edge and Valley Edge Design Centre.
