Karen Cunningham and Julia Fetterman launch independent production company, Pop-Up Films
Director Karen Cunningham and producer Julia Fetterman have launched Pop-Up Films, a flexible, independent production company.
Pop-Up’s philosophy is simple, with the name underlining the ethos: no rules, no manifestos, and no boundaries. The duo will look at each brief with fresh eyes and an open mind to deliver the best possible creative work.
Pop-Up have just produced their first job for the Young Directors Award.
Fetterman will run and represent the company as managing partner / executive producer while Cunningham looks to continue her success as a director, having already picked up several accolades including a BTAA Silver, Best New Director at Kinsale and Best New Director at YDA/Shots Cannes, all in her first 18 months behind the camera.
Cunningham is in the unique position of having worked agency side, having produced for some of London’s top directors as well as running her own highly successful production company Pink. “Wonderful World” marked her crossover from producer to director, a film she wrote and directed for the Half Moon Children’s Theatre Co, which won several awards and launched her directing career. She has most recently been represented by Partizan.
Fetterman has been in production all her working life, starting out with Tony Kaye. She has worked as a producer for some of London’s top production where she produced work for brands such as Coca Cola, McDonalds, Heineken, and T-Mobile to name a few.
When asked about the venture the duo said: “We have known each other for many years and we feel the time is right to put our experiences together. We want to keep Pop-Up Films small and this will give us the creative freedom to work on great projects, and not be a slave to our overheads. This, we feel, will be appealing to our clients.”
