Clemenger BBDO, Sydney

To stop the flow of litter into our seas, Clemenger BBDO Sydney brought the sounds of the ocean to the city. More and more litter is finding its way into our oceans. To tackle this problem the agency played ocean sounds (dolphins, whales, waves etc) from inside storm water drains, creating a dramatic link between our city streets and the nearby ocean. The Sound Grate installations took place across major capital cities. The campaign attracted a mass of media attention from 13 TV stories, 50 radio items and 128 press and online articles, making this the most successful campaign for KAB week ever.

Keep Australia Beautiful Week kicked off on August 22 last year with the support of an integrated campaign comprising print, posters and an ambient PR stunt to highlight the impact litter has on our oceans and other waterways. Says executive creative director, Paul Nagy: “The brief was to create a link in people’s minds between the rubbish they drop on land and the trash that spoils our beautiful waterways – because so often one becomes the other. Each element of the campaign tackles different issues surrounding this problem. Our Where does your rubbish go? print campaign uses several executions to highlight that the urban environment where you might throw a cigarette butt, a coffee cup or a chip packet is just like throwing it into our beautiful waterways.”

‘Enjoy the Ride’ is an innovative approach to a critical issue on our roads – speed. Instead of rolling out the same shock and gore road safety campaigns, 303Lowe Perth presented a positive message about the benefits of slow.

The IKEA catalogue is an institution. People anticipate its arrival, get excited about it, read it and then often throw it away. 303Lowe wanted it to stay in the home and have pride of place. But, with living costs increasing 303Lowe figured it only fair that IKEA should pay rent for the space it occupies, through monthly rent cheques redeemable in-store.
