ben.jpgHome-grown talent Ben Dowie has joined the creative team at KOJO as Director/DOP.

From Willunga on the South Australian coast, Dowie is bringing his unique grass-roots style to the Content team at KOJO. Specifically, he is a master of the Canon 5 and 7D cameras, which help him to capture moments and free flowing sequences resulting in truly cinematic experiences.

Dowie’s urban approach to directing is innovative and unconventional, preferring to work with talent in an unrehearsed, natural capacity.

KOJO executive producer, Barbara Devlin is excited about having Ben on board.

Says Devlin: “Ben Dowie is a goldmine of talent and his unique and artful style gives him the point of difference that builds on the diversity we are able to offer our clients.”

With technology changing rapidly, Ben’s style of work supports KOJO’s innovative approach to doing things a little differently in terms of breaking new ground creatively.

Dowie recently shot a test video on his iPhone 4S, which reflects his distinct style and reveals the indie  nature of his work. The video recorded more than 700,000 views on Vimeo in four days.

Says Dowie: “I love to work in the natural environment. Growing up on the coast I feel a real connection to the ocean and love nothing more than to film it.”

He has also filmed a series of longboard videos that showcase his style.

Describing the techniques used in one of these videos, Dowie says: “I marry slow motion longboard sliding to ‘glitch’ music in a way which brings the audio and images together as one, using super slow shots to see how far I can push the optical flow.”
