Saatchi’s Sydney lures back creative team May and Eberhardt plus Borrino and Turner; and former Mother head of design Tod Duke-Yonge
CB Exclusive – Saatchi & Saatchi Sydney is continuing to attract top talent with two senior creative teams joining the agency as well as the snaring of ex Mother, London head of design Tod Duke-Yonge as head of design.
New ECD Damon Stapleton, who took up the position on 5 January, has lured back former Saatchi’s creative team Steve May and Nils Eberhardt, who departed for DDB Sydney last year.
Stapleton is also reuniting with senior creative team Darren Borrino and Stuart Turner who will make the move to Saatchi & Saatchi from 303 Lowe, Sydney. The pair worked under Stapleton at TBWA\Hunt\Lascaris in South Africa before moving to DDB South Africa.
May and Eberhardt formed an award-winning partnership at Saatchi & Saatchi in 2010 and have worked with numerous blue-chip clients such as Toyota, Sony, Earth Hour, Cadburys and Lion Nathan. The team has awards from Cannes, The One Show and D&AD to their name.
Says Stapleton (left): “It is fantastic to regain Steve and Nils’ experience and exceptional creative talent.”
Borrino and Turner have worked with IKEA, McDonalds, Honda, International Electric
Commission South Africa and can count a Gold Lion, six Cannes shortlists and a Yellow Pencil among their multiple global awards.
Stapleton is delighted to have the pair on board who he describes as “highly motivated and
violently hungry”.
Tod Duke-Yonge, former head of design at Mother London, has worked on campaigns for
Stella Artois, Amnesty International and British Television station ITV2 as well as Diet Coke’s Hello You’ campaign. Tod whose career including time at M&C Saatchi UK, DÁrcy Masius Benton & Bowles, and Grey London, joined Saatchi & Saatchi Sydney last year.
Stapleton added: “The attraction of experienced new talent and the return of Saatchi & Saatchi natives is a great endorsement of the new vision and energy Mike (Rebeo) has established since he arrived.”
Since his appointment in October, CEO Michael Rebelo has hired Stapleton as ECD, and shortly after announced the appointment of experienced EPD, Jason Lonsdale from London.
“I came to Sydney to create world-class creative and strategic partnership team that would
make Saatchi & Saatchi Sydney Australia’s leading agency,” he said. “With the new creative platform that we’re assembling, we’re reloading, rebooting and are well on track to achieving that quickly.”

Good move Steve and Nils.
Go Stu & Darren. Good guys.
Great news for a bunch of great guys
south africans, kiwis, awards, blah blah blah, how many have actually lasted and made something decent here???
I wonder if any of the recently-departed teams are going to regret their leaving?
AWESOME
Enough of all this luring, snaring, rebooting, reloading ‘under new management’, ‘messiah returrns to save the day’ spin already!
Formidable talent & top man but I hear Tod has been freelancing there for six months now. It’s just taken this long to get permission to give him a damn contract.
As for S & N, simply a case of the grass not being greener after all & pleading to come back.
Nothing more. Nothing less.
Just get on with it & do some great work scratchis.
I want to be part of it.
I WANT TO BE PART OF IT.
Sorry didn’t mean to be such a dick, all the best of luck!
Certainly Saacthi’s days of overstated press releases are back, now lets see some work….
@deja vu, what does South African or Kiwi have to do with it? Do Aussies only work in Australia? “get outta my country ya poof!”
Stevie. Back to work on tanning your feet?
Dont care what the haters say, I’m stoked to be part of it!!
On ya D&S. A well overdue move forward.
I love you.
Good on you Steve, great move.
