Top Aussie creatives to teach at Miami Ad School

Miami1.jpgMiami Ad School Sydney has hired teachers from nine agencies to teach the year one classes of the 2-year Art Directors and Copywriting courses.

Eminent creatives also have signed up to give round table ‘Industry Hero’ talks to the students.

The school is owned by individuals under a license arrangement in Sydney, Hamburg, Berlin, Madrid, Istanbul, Mexico City and Sao Paulo. The American schools, Miami, New York, San Francisco and Minneapolis, are owned by the founders, Ron and Pippa Seichrist.

All schools are run by couples or families who have gained the trust of the founders. Miami Ad Schools resemble a community more than an education institution. ‘Sunday Soccer’ is a regular activity in most schools and a resident  ‘top dog’ keeps watch over an assortment of dogs that students are encouraged to bring to the school.

Despite the family ambience, the school’s academic requirements are tough. Miaimi Ad School’s curriculum is developed globally by award winning agencies such as Crispin Porter.  Study conditions resemble the work pace in an agency. The 32 classes require intensive homework and the stringent requirements result in a high employment rate for the students. Through overseas ‘greenhouses’ internships the students often find work globally.

Jeff Galbraith, a Miami Ad School alumni and copywriter at Clemenger BBDO will teach the  Copywriting class ‘Short and Sweet’.

Says Galbraith: “I attended the school from 2005-2006, interning with Crispin Porter + Bogusky as well as DDB Chicago. I also had the pleasure of doing quarters away at Stockholm and Starcom, Amsterdam and completed the program by taking Ron Seichrist’s portfolio course in Miami. I can say without with hesitation that my two years at MAS were two of the best of my life and positioned me nicely to begin a successful career in advertising. Upon graduation, I worked with DDB in Vancouver for nearly four years before moving to Sydney to join Clemenger BBDO in late 2010.”
