Clemenger BBDO Sydney and PepsiCo launches new ‘You know you love ’em’ brand campaign for Smith’s potato chips on eve of Australia Day
CB Exclusive – Clemenger BBDO Sydney and PepsiCo have launched a new brand campaign for Smith’s potato chips on the eve of Australia Day 2012.
The TVC features iconic Australian actor, Stephen Curry (aka Dale ‘I dug a hole’ Kerrigan).
In his typically dry manner, Stephen takes us on a tour of modern Aussie life. He celebrates the indisputable role of Smith’s chips in the fabric of Australian life and shows how every day, in any number of ways, these chips are making life that little bit better. That’s why we love them.
“Like most great Australians, Smith’s Chips are humbly iconic. These ads are a little reminder – from one of our most humbly iconic stars – what an important part they play in every Aussie’s life,” said Paul Nagy, ECD at Clemenger BBDO Sydney.
The spot is part of a series of TVCs shot by Dave Klaiber from Plaza Films.

Stephen Curry is a very good comedic talent.
The ad isn’t funny though.
Bet the planners unearthed some brilliant never before seen gems to bring this to life.
Great work boys – nice ad, good idea and I can imagine tough slog with client.
This ad makes me want to denounce my citizenship.
Sorry but that is really bad.
awful, lazy noise
Fail, crunch.
why is every second ad like old spice. a dude making up words (vinegar-ey) walking from left to right doing actions with his hands while not looking at his hands and being all manly – “turn a 9 into a 9 with a pack of smiths”.
old spice has become a real style/gimmick
not complaining. its just interesting.
Family functions gag? Heard it before in a coffee ad.
Not bad but not great. Trying too hard to be too funny. Agree with ‘man’
I’d give that chick a 10…
What’s funny about this spot is the fact you posted this in the first place.
I just go, it’s a bit rough to call walking left from right as Old Spice mimicry. As for ‘doing actions with his hands’, what else is he meant to do them with?
I think it’s great boys. Break me off another piece.
Crap writing.
That is all.
i think this ad is good. it serves it’s purpose which is to sell chips.
Not funny. Poorly done.
I had a little chuckle. Good ad.
Smith’s Crisps are British.
As British as Golden Wonder and Walker’s.
Or Cadbury’s.
They’re not Australian.
Best ad Smith’s has ever done. And I struggle to think of other good ads for the category.
Nicely done.
How come all poms call it Cadbury’s? It may be a pommy brand but at least we can pronounce it correctly. It’s called Cadbury old chap.
@ man said
i disagree. The only thing I liked about this ad was the ‘turn a 9 into a…9’ line. based on the simple principle that you never give 10s.
Antipodean
It used to be called Cadbury’s the world over, until some bright spark in the marketing dept decided it would bea good idea to spunk a million quid rebranding the trademark by dropping the ‘s’.
Clear, old chap?
Just another stupid ad objectifying women’s bodies. Ladies all over Australia will be choosing a different brand of chips.
Yet another stupid ad objectifying women. And judging by the comments here, many men have found the ad appealing. It’s not funny and I am utterly disgusted that Smiths, in trying to sell chips, have resorted to using a girl in a bikini and a man leering at her for no apparent reason! It doesn’t make me want to buy chips at all… If there are any other women out there who support this please encourage your friends to contact Smiths in protest of this ad or just boycott the brand. That is what I will be doing
Come on Offended lady , your just jealous because she’s HOT , and she is.
shes a nine because it rhymes with fine
