Yep. Bloody good. Haven’t seen a great DM piece in years.
so simple. so good. well done.
Gold… in DM.
Boom. So simple. Yet I bet it took ages to get there. Well done.
Brilliant.
Ahhh… the forgotten art.
Same idea done in the 80’s in DaAD for a wedding invitation… tie the knot.
Riiiiiiiiip off. Was on all the blogs recently as a wedding invite
Very nice. Well done.
Hahaha ‘was done in the 80s as a wedding invite’. You guys crack me up. Are you reading 30 year old D&ADs??
Knot bad.
Very nice. Simple and clean.
Sweet. But where’s my invite?
I got this in the mail this morning. Nice DM. Nice PR too.
I had to do a wedding invite last year for a mate and found that idea in D&AD.
I couldn’t rip it off. Although it seems to work better for boating.
A wedding invite is a bit obvious for this idea. The way this is used does a lot more with it.
Biters. I’ve seen that concept about five times for wedding invites!!
Nothing original about it.
Friend did it as a wedding invite a month ago.
Highly doubtful the guys would have put their heads on the chopping blog had they known it’d been done before
Friend did it as a wedding invite a month ago.
If your friend does it for his wedding.. that’s unoriginal. If you do it for how EASY it is to go sailing.. it’s a different idea. Did you bother to read the headline?
It’s advertising an ‘advertising day’ on a boat?
Fuck me.
Hey, ‘Said’;
It’s a ‘tie the knot gag’. That’s a wedding reference. Same thing.
The difference is, posting it here by virtue stakes a very different claim.
Pfft… the Mariner ad is not a ‘tie the knot’ gag. It has nothing to do with marriage.
Are you serious? Read it again. Geeez…
Dear ‘…’ the fact that has been done is fact enough, it doesn’t matter what it was done for, it’s exactly the same idea.
If we follow your line of argument, you could write a beer ad featuring a very life like drumming gorilla and a phil collins song and that would be a different idea to the cadbury’s ad because it’s not for chocolate.
Capiche?
I don’t think this is a straight rip at all. Sure, they both use the same mechanic, but the ideas are different. One is a visual pun on ‘Tie the knot’, the other about how easy it is to go sailing – sailing is about knots – you’ve passed the test. I might be splitting hairs but this is a pretty good bit of DM.
This is a wonderful idea!
