Ben Eagleton joins Fuel VFX as head of colour
Fuel VFX has announced the appointment of Ben Eagleton as head of colour.
Eagleton has spent more than 20 years of his career specialising in colour management and is known as one of the best in the business.
Repatriating to Australia following a two year tenure as the group head of colour for Tag Worldwide and based at Smoke & Mirrors New York, Eagleton takes up the post at Fuel VFX to spearhead the newly formed department and offer Fuel clients dedicated colour grading services.
Says Eagleton: “I’m very excited to be back in Australia and to have joined the team at Fuel. I’ve been impressed with the work they have been doing in recent years, and now look forward to contributing to Fuel’s slate of projects.”
Originally from London, he spent his early years working at Rushes before emigrating to Australia where he took a senior colourist position with The Lab. With an innate ability to recognise and embrace technical innovations in addition to excelling in the art of colour, Eagleton pioneered a modern non-linear workflow practice that essentially turned traditional telecine methods on its head.
In 2007 he opened BEAN in Sydney, the world’s first facility dedicated solely to data grading. By adopting modern DI practices and applying them to the commercials market, Eagleton attracted an enviable client list including directors Steve Rogers, Paul Middleditch, Bruce Hunt, Michael Spiccia, Matt Murphy and The Glue Society among others.
In 2009, BEAN was acquired by Tag Worldwide who own Smoke & Mirrors.
Appointed group head of colour for the company, Eagleton moved to New York and was responsible for establishing new grading suites and workflows for Smoke & Mirrors’ New York, London, Shanghai and Sao Paulo facilities.
In recent years, he has worked on commercial campaigns and music videos for directors Spike Lee, Gerard de Thame, Jake Scott, Chris Cunningham, Jonathan Glazer, Paul Hunter and 2010 Best Live Action Short Film Oscar winner Joachim Back.
