Droga5, Whybin\TBWA, JWT, BMF and Leo Burnett join Unilever creative agency roster
Unilever Australia has appointed a number of new creative agencies to its existing roster, with an initial remit to support a range of Unilever brands on a project basis. The selected agencies are Droga5, Whybin\TBWA, JWT, BMF, and Leo Burnett.
Says Peter Boone, vice president, marketing, Unilever: “After appointing Mindshare as our media agency earlier this year, we have spent some time reviewing our use of creative agencies. We have invited new agencies to join us in our quest to drive real consumer behaviour change for brands like Omo, Magnum, Continental, Dove and Lynx.
Creating communication that cuts through requires disruptive ideas and we are very excited to be able to work with the best to do this.” The agencies join Unilever’s existing creative partners Naked, Razor, DDB, Lowe and McCann, and other digital and aligned agencies.

Use AAAALL the agencies!!!!
I know they have a lot of brands, but this seems madly excessive.
Show some balls and some loyalty, Unilever. You’ll get better work in the end from a smaller roster of respected agencies who aren’t constantly shitting themselves about losing the business – and who are therefore able to build their own businesses to help serve yours.
I’m very surprised not to see Sterling Cooper Draper Pryce on this list.
10 agencies doesn’t seem like enough.
All great agency can’t argue with that.
Probably easier to announce the few agencies that aren’t on the roster.
Haha, this just tied up the top agencies contractually to fight for scraps while freeing up the run on all the rest of the global holding companies. Massive oversight from mega management of agencies. Classic move from unilever.
Watch ’em all ditch it!!
Ladies and Gentlemen,
Well done on winning the right to constantly pitch on the Cuppa Salt brand.
Please prepare your in-store brand activation teams to be briefed on leveraging (read do a two-bit Woolies/Coles promo featuring wobblers, gondola ends and everyone gets ) for the stunningly shite TVC the client wrote in the USA, UK, Europe or worse, Malaysia.
Still, it pays the wages fer f@ck’s sake….
ha ha ha. poopy poo poos
Having worked in the UK, this is so depressing to see. The “roster” system is so clearly an agency fuck-over where the carrot is dangled in front of the agency for the possibility of winning the greater business.
Please don’t let this happen!
A bit of unilever here, a bit of P&G there, it all adds up to a boring stacks-on in which we’re scrummaging for little bites of the pie.
Anti-fun. Anti-creativity. Anti-everything anyone loves about working in an agency (unless you have shares, in which case — rad.)
And there I was thinking that Darren Woolley’s magical remuneration app was going to save Australian agencies from getting fucked over like this.
Pitching for every brief is just about the worst, most inefficient way of working imaginable.
Sigh.
I absolutely agree, pitching every brief is the worst way to develop work. So why do clients still try it and agencies still play along.
GMH have done it – Cummins & Partners resigned the business
Subaru is reported to have done it – Leo Burnetts resigned the business
Vodafone supposedly did it – Clemenger Sydney refused to re-pitch
Now Premier Retail are doing it. See the AFR last Monday. Mark McInnes (ex-CEO David Jones) is reported as saying he has about 30 agencies wanting to pitch for his business.
It seems to me that for every agency willing to make a stand against this type of behaviour there is apparently 30 willing to play.
And thanks Not Appy for mentioning the app. That should really boost the downloads.
