Each week on Gruen two of the advertising industry’s finest agencies are pitted against each other and challenged with selling the unsellable.
Tonight two ad agencies – Meerkats, Perth and Creative’s Co-op, Sydney – to try to get Australians to support a national ban on swearing.

Bloody fucking funny the boys and girls at Meerkats.
Loved it.
Pissed myself.
Everything about this show makes me cringe.
I’m sorry, but I just wish the agencies would treat The Pitch seriously rather than as a chance to show how funny they can be. First, the result is never very funny; and second, it’s a missed opportunity to show the world what advertising can do.
The swearing brief wasn’t an impossible brief by any means. I’m sure that if the agencies had received that brief in a genuine pitch, they would have found a dozen different and relevant ways to actually show how stopping people from swearing would be good for our society. And yes, they might have been funny solutions. But they wouldn’t have been negative or counter-productive like the lame efforts we see every week.
Sorry BK, but if the show makes you cringe, perhaps you shouldn’t be in the industry. Either that, or you don’t know much about the industry or what it’s supposed to do.
