Nancy Hartley’s 2011 Cannes Diary – Day Seven from the Cannes Cyber jury room

NANCY-photo[2].JPGNancy Hartley, joint executive creative director of SapientNitro Australia, is Australia’s representative on the Cyber jury.  She has just finished day three of judging and writes exclusively for Campaign Brief.

And on the seventh day … they judged some more. Day 7 in the Cyber room was 12 hours of robust, interesting and entertaining discussion. It’s been a strong year and as you go through the entries it becomes apparent where things have moved on and what now looks old.

I felt a real buzz when we awarded the first Gold. Judges with entries being discussed leave the room and wait in a space that appropriately, embodies all the qualities of purgatory. The muffled sound of a round of applause signals glory awaits.

When it got to Grand Prix discussion, the jury was on fire, and so was a boat in the harbour. We’d discussed so much, so thoroughly over the past week, that the decision just rolled out beautifully, and unanimously.

It’s been an amazing experience. I’ve been on a brilliant jury and hung out with some great people, including Susie Essman from Curb Your Enthusiasm.

So all in all – pretty, pretty, pretty, pretty good.
