Campaign helps Newcastle Council to bring major new three bin waste program
A major campaign developed by John Church Advertising (JCA) has commenced to promote the City of Newcastle’s move to a new three bin system for household waste.
JCA director John Church said the three month campaign is designed to help Newcastle Council’s 142,000 residents make the transition from two to three bins as smooth as possible.
The integrated marketing communications campaign includes TV, radio and newspaper advertising as well as web information, printed brochures for each rate payer and an online instructional DVD, all produced by the agency.
It is a two phase campaign with information being provided now whilenew bins are being distributed and a second phase starting once the newcollection service begins on July 4.
Mr Church said the campaign uses Geoff McCudden, a real Council garbo, and animated bins to make this important topic friendly and fun.”Bringing the bins to life brings attention to the serious issue ofincreased recycling and green waste collection,” Mr Church said.
“Ensuring residents correctly use each bin is vital to help Councilreduce the amount of waste going to landfill and avoid state governmentlevies that councils must pay for waste disposal,” he said.
Newcastle Council collects approximately 1 tonne of garbage per household each year.
JCA has been operating for 16 years making it one of Newcastle’s mostexperienced advertising and communcations companies. It offers clientsadvertising, marketing, PR, digital and design services. Through itssister company PrintNova, the group is also able to offer offset anddigital printing, making it a truly full service agency.

This would be great if it hadn’t been in use in other states for over 10 years.
Make the transition? How hard is it to dump something in the bin next to the other one?
Have seen the promos and the new bins being wheeled out across the city – not sure if we needed such a glossy campaign – after all the green eco awareness campaign is well and truly entrenched in our psyches.
let me be the first to say that this campaign is rubbish…
…thanyyouverymuch, I’m ‘ere all week, try the veal…
Rubbish.
Bin night was last night.
Laden with bad jokes.
What a waste of money.

Slow news day? Pa-lease…
The City of Newcastle…where no-one knows who their Dad is.
I adore the retro references to the Top Cat cell animation style for the rubbish itself. A nice post modernist twist to go with the oh so 2011 CG bins. Personally, I like the red one best.
