Outrage as SpeedKills sign stolen by some goose
The tiny town of SpeedKills (nee Speed) is outraged that their newly installed town name sign has been stolen, as reported by the Herald Sun today. The sign was erected 10 days ago after the campaign to change the name of the town achieved over 30,000 ‘Likes’ on Facebook.
The campaign received much local attention with all free to air TV networks covering the story and the name change also received international attention with the story being picked up by international media brands such as The BBC and Reuters.
It was developed by Naked Communications, the TAC and the small town of Speed.
Adam Ferrier, founding partner of Naked Communications said: “We arereally disappointed that some goose decided to steal the sign for theirown pleasure. The campaign involved a lot of people saying jointlythat they have had enough of people speeding in rural areas – to havesomeone come along and steal the sign displaying the town’s new name isjust selfish.”

Why the fuck would Adam Ferrier of Naked comment on a pissy little sign being nicked unless it was a publicity stunt from Naked, to keep the oxygen flowing through this idea?
I think Naked already cried wolf for a fashion chain last year. Got form in the ‘clever lie = good PR’ department.

When an English village lost its sign for the third time the residents clubbed together and had the name engraved into a three tonne block of limestone.
The Secretary of Shittington Parish Council commented, “let’s see them try and get that into the boot of a Ford Fiesta”.
I read that the sign was temporary which defeats the whole purpose of the campaign.
PR, give up the sign!

A more relevant PR gag would have been if someone smashed into the sign
I think a better campaign would have been to tie Ferrier up and gaffer tape him to the road with a sign encouraging everyone to speed up. That guy gets everywhere proclaiming to be some ad oracle, when he churns out nonsense like this.
