adland_02.jpg‘Images from Adland’, the photography exhibition celebrating commercial photography, organised by the Australian Centre of Photography and The Communications Council, kicks off today, running until March 12.

The exhibition is the curtain-raiser for Circus, an intensive four-day event showcasing creative excellence, business innovation and ideas running at CarriageWorks from 22 February 2011.

‘Images from Adland’ celebrates the art and business of photographiccreativity in the burgeoning field of contemporary commercialcommunications.

“The idea for this exhibition arose from discussions ACP was havingwith the Communications Council about ways to recognise the artisticvalue of commercial creativity,” said Alasdair Foster, ACP Director.”Just because an image was commissioned to do a job does not mean it iswithout artistic value. After all, by today’s standards, most of theRenaissance painters were engaged in a form of advertising. As PeterUstinov once said: ‘If Botticelli were alive today he’d be working forVogue'”

Daniel Leesong.JPGFeaturing cutting-edge images from a variety of ad campaigns, theexhibition draws on imagery from some of Australia’s most acclaimedcommissioning ad agencies and photographers including Toby Burrows,Lisa Saad, Adrian Lander, Stuart Crossett, Jeremy Park, AlexiaSinclair.

“We’re really pleased to have been able to partner with ACP to bringyou this exhibition. All the selected images are innovative, imaginative and artful. We are very happy to provide the platform toshowcase such imagery and encourage all to come along to see thiscreativity for themselves.” said Daniel Leesong (pictured left), CEO CommunicationsCouncil.

Both organisations seek to celebrate and support Australia’s creativephotographic talent. Many works will be available for sale with nocommission taken by ACP or the Communications Council.
