Asian Australians send a message around the world to make a donation to the flood appeal
Using a TV commercial as the medium, a group of Asian Australians are sending a message to their own communities around the country, asking them to help Queenslanders devastated by the floods.
The TVC features five Australians speaking in their native language – Cantonese, Mandarin, Vietnamese, Khmer and Bahasa Indonesian. Sub titles accompany them in English.
The idea of making a TV ad came from Sydney restaurateur Lee Ngann Ly. He approached producer Les Luxford and asked how quickly a commercial could be prepared.
The TVC, which asks for donations to be made to the Queensland Premier’s Flood Relief Appeal, was finished five days later.
The speakers in the ad include Lee Ngann Ly and Helen Sham-Ho, who was the first Chinese born parliamentarian in Australia.

Thecommercial is supported by organisations including the AustralianChinese Community Association and the Australian Chinese Forum. It isexpected to go to air this weekend.
