Sticky situation: Jamshop, Adelaide apologies to FHM over ‘Don’t waste your sperm’ concept
Jamshop, Adelaide has apologised to men’s magazine FHM, for stating that the DM ‘glue’ element of a campaign for Repromed, Australia’s leading infertility research and treatment provider, appeared in the publication in December. Only the full page ad did so.
What follows is statement from the agency: We wish to advise that any suggestion that the glue spot concept was published in FHM magazine is incorrect. Although FHM quoted on publishing this concept as a DPS ad, it did not proceed.
The glue spot concept was an idea developed by JAM as a specific direct mail idea to complement the published ad.
Any confusion between the two ideas was not intended and JAM regrets any embarrassment this may have caused the editors and publishers of FHM.
UPDATE 18/1/11- a note to CB from Jamshop principal Jim Robinson which should clear things up a little:
Dear CB,
We write this letter to correct any assumptions.
Here is the whole story. The ad, as presented by you in Campaign Brief ran in the January edition of FHM. The website as featured in your article of December 6 is up and running. The campaign has achieved amazing success against formidable odds- sperm donors are very difficult to find and any that present themselves also have to undergo onerous scrutiny for suitability and legal obligations.
In the original proposal to our client, we asked FHM to quote on running a gluespot in its pages. We didn’t proceed with this option in the original campaign, because of cost.
In later trying to extend the campaign’s reach, JAM purchased a number of copies of FHM Magazine and applied a glue spot ourselves, sending out a few of those copies as a DM piece to a discreet audience. We had wrongly assumed that it would be OK with FHM because of prior discussions.
So out of respect to FHM, we have withdrawn most of those copies and the proposed DM component will not run as planned.
At all times we have acted with the approval of our client, we have remained open and honest in our dealings and this is what our client at Repromed said:
“The guys at Jam have done a wonderful job with our sperm donor recruitment campaign. I’m happy to say it’s been very successful and we look forward to future campaigns”
Regards
Jim Robinson
Principal.

where did it run then?
Gee, that’s a new idea…an ad that’s not actually appeared… there must be a name for that sort of thing.
Jam Scam?
scamshop?
Ironic that a small shop in adelaide is busted when half the ecds in Sydney/Auckland/London/New York/ The world have got away with this sort of shit for years
Time to swallow your sticky, salty pride.
Hold your horses scamsters. It’s my understanding that there were two parts to this campaign 1) the ad you see above and 2) a DM piece that involved a very sticky glue spot. Now I can’t comment on the ‘glue spot’ stuff but I did see the aforementioned ad in an issue of FHM.
To answer your question, 10:14… down the inside of her leg.
But I saw the ad in FHM (January’s edition).
I saw the ad in the FHM mag too (Ahem, not that i’m a reader of that sort of thing) looked cool.
The ad was definitely in my Jan 2011 issue of FHM..
The glue spot wasn’t published in FHM but it did run as a DM piece.
Call me old fashioned but I thought the client (who apparently approved the DM piece was the client). Not FHM.
I’m confused? The client approved the ad. The ad ran in FHM. I saw the ad in FHM.
I saw the print ad in FHM that chick was hot.
Wow, a lot of people on here:
1. Read FHM
2. Read the January issue of FHM, and
3. Can be bothered commenting.
Amazing.
So FHM quoted on doing the DM but Jamshop decided to do it themselves instead and now FHM are cranky and Jamshop has to apologise to them on CB?
Get a life FHM.
here is the scary bit – the ad is not very good
Lame excuse for a lame agency. I guess anything that starts with the letter ‘J’ in the Adelaide advertising scene is junk
Really? The glue spot imitating sperm was done and done again, years ago. More importantly the ad is very weak. I wouldn’t have even put it on the wall, AND it’s been shortlisted for Cannes?!?! The world’s gone mad.
