Telstra appoints DDB to bring to life its new brand positioning, ‘It’s how we connect’, early 2011
Telstra has appointed DDB to undertake the work to bring to life the company’s new brand positioning, “It’s how we connect”. The agency will commence work, for a launch in early 2011.
Mark Collis, Telstra’s director creativity, brand and strategy (left), said: “I want Telstra to be the best brand in Australia, this is the beginning of that journey.”
The work includes a refreshed brand look and feel, brand activation programs centred around connection and a series of engagement initiatives via social media that will connect Telstra more closely with its customer base.
The new brand work will also include an internal communications program to engage Telstra staff to help deliver on the brand vision.
Chris Brown, DDB Group managing director, said he was delighted that DDB had the opportunity to help shape the future direction of the Telstra brand: “Mark and the Telstra team have made it very clear that this is an opportunity to tackle the brand challenge for Telstra in a new and exciting way. This will be a program based on real change and real engagement, and we’re delighted to be part of it,” said Brown.

Oh that’s fucking excellent!
This story connected to the one below.
Collis must be fucking livid.
What happened to Ogilvy?
Hilarious.
Who’s around to execute it?
DDBye
Perhaps it’s an opportunity for DDB to ask Collis “who would you like us to hire?”
Which is not as unbelievably stupid as it sounds.
DDBurnetts
Yeah, DDB lose a couple players and the whole agency collapses. Are you fucking high? Could the haters take a vacation for a while.
Might be a chance for ddbleh to finally get some non-traditional thinkers in. Although, Telstra… staff running… hmmm.
Hey Jeffrey…
A couple of players; Grant McAloon, Paul Sharp, Brendan Donnelly, Guy Futcher, Jakub Szymanski, Alex Stainton, Charlie Cook, Simon Johnson, Tim Cairns, Tim Green and that’s just from the creative department, for now. Not to mention the relentless turnover of business management.
This is not to say the agency will collapse, it wont, but one has to ask the question, why is all this talent leaving such an amazing agency?
9:36 – to add to that, excuse me for being old-school… Dave O’Sullivan, Misha McDonald, Michale O’Rouke, Oggy, Alex & Ant, Ben O’Brien, Richard Selbourne… + a shiteload of talented people.
They’ve had no trouble losing talent, no trouble attracting it. But a big hit in a small space… looks like troubles up ahead.
Fair enough 9:36. You have me in a full Nelson here, but in all fairness some of those are not recent retreats.
I have utmost respect for all agencies possibly involved. And I am fully aware of whom went where and the implications this makes for other creative partners.
But the comments made were unnecessary. I’m pretty sure DDB can manage their affairs quite well. Telstra think so.
5:03 was actually humorous and 4:22 might be right on time. But the rest are muck raking. Whether they are from another agency or just wilding; it’s boring and unproductive to Australian advertising.
I do have to mention the anonymous thing as well. If you can’t put you’re name to it than fuck you. You don’t deserve to write it. I can understand why Michael runs it, but that sort of shit doesn’t go down in NY, London, Tokyo or Amsterdam.
Anyway, good luck to all involved
Oh, I think irritated creatives are rather worldwide.
Go to ‘AgencySpy’ in the US and you’ll find anonymous comments that make this place look like the fucking scouts.
Whaaat? Telstra best brand in Australia?
They can’t even take a fucking ‘phone call!
We all hate Telco’s, always will!
This guy is dreaming!
Jeffrey, you need a proofreader. Or a grammar coach.
Jeffrey has smoked a Jeffrey. He’s just a nice bloke from down the road, his wife has varicose veins.
