Commonwealth Bank suffers massive online battering in wake of interest rate rise

Huge numbers of disgruntled Commonwealth Bank customers have taken to the internet to vent their outrage over the ‘unfair’ variable interest rate hike of 0.45% this week, says online and social media tracking company, Cyber Chatter.

Using world-leading technology, Cyber Chatter has analysed more than 2700 online conversations about the Commonwealth Bank, showing a massive increase in negative sentiment towards the organisation across blogs, forums, microblogs and social networking sites.

Negative online conversations about the big bank spiked on Tuesday to10 times the average number, with 801 online posts published, blastingthe company over its interest rate rise.

The results showed negative opinions of the bank far outweighed thepositive online and the majority of the outcry was unleashed onmicroblogging sites like Twitter.

Twitter user @LucyChisolm vented “Ridiculous interest rates – justanother reason to leave the #CBA” (2 Nov), while @m_novosel tweeted”Commonwealth Bank you disgust me 0.45% rate hike due to ‘increasedcosts’ what a load of BS, time to look for a new lender!! #CBA” (2Nov), and @annasamara tweeted “F*** you Commonwealth Bank. F*** you andyour extra interest rate rises. You’re a bunch of money grubbings***heads” (2 Nov).

The tracking showed men were most angered, with 89% of negative onlineconversations about the bank led by males, compared to only 11% forfemales.
