I worked on Toyota for three years.
Sorry.
There is absolutely no way this is anything other than an in-store.
“Here’s your ad.”
“Where’s the car?”
“We’re not putting it on.”
“Fuck off.”
Come on Saatchis. Do something real.
Haven’t looked at the blog for ages, but i see nothing has changed – the usual bunch of bitter and twisted anonymous rants. Anonymous 2:53, I’d like to suggest that you do something real, and give your real name. It’s so easy to be scathing under the cowardly cloak of anonymity. Well done Stevie May, great work. Very jealous.

I AGREE 2.53.
WHOEVER’S READING THIS, IF YOU KNOW A MAG THEIR IN NOW THAT I CAN BUY I WILL APOLOGISE IN GROVELLING TERMS. BUT OTHERWISE, YOU’RE A SCAMMER.
it’s a bit obscure, isn’t it. and i don’t know if the line “prepare for anything” is mandatory, but surely “everywhere is a street” would have helped connect the dots better.
Opens moleskin notebook, finds page with “Put google map directions in a wilderness shot” scribble.
Writes ‘done’ underneath in really angry writing.
Mutters darkly to himself to get off ass and make more proactive ads.
The elegant simplicity of this campaign has obviously stirred up the haters. That’s a pity. For what it’s worth, I think this is one of those ideas that just makes you giggle inside (and possibly outside too) when it comes into your mind as you sit in front of the large, empty layout pad. Like all brilliantly simple ideas, it looks too easy to be legitimate. 4:16, it’s not an obscure idea;anyone who’s looked at Google maps will recognise it immediately. Even someone in the 0ver-50 age group like myself. Yes, ‘Everywhere is s street’ would complete the ads perfectly – particularly for the hard-of-thinking. I’m guessing ‘Prepare for anything’ is the current brand strapline. Fortunately, it also makes sense with these executions and is implied by them. The copy-less sophistication of these ads positions Prado as a 4WD for the more discerning…the more sophisticated. A good position for a more up-market 4WD/SUV. A note to those who insist that these must be scams because they don’t show the car – it’s been done before on Toyota. By a certain Old CD guy…
The Anonymous scam call, brave, very brave. 5.20 not quite sure why anyone would give a fuck what u think? If you’re so confident on your call, pop your name on this blog lets see who you are? Ah that’s right you’re nobody, who’s done nothing, who’s bitter and twisted because someone else is having a go! cock!
Actually Monty ,sorry, 5.05, I think you only freelanced at Saatchi’s. Barry Humphries campaign, from memory. See, someone can remember it.
Regardless, I think Mr Caps at 3:57 made a good point ,despite the spelling
Could the guys at Saatchi’s point us towards the mags these double page spreads are running in?
It’ll only take a second and it will clear this whole thing up in a jiffy.
Look forward to it.
Okay, I will say these are really well put together, nice looking, awardy style ads. Hats off for knowing how to keep an idea simple and beautiful. Very Saatchi. For those wanting a car in these ads, it’s not unheard of in the SUV category to focus on scenery. The people who buy these cars get off on the places they will go. They ride mountain bikes and climb mountains. So I don’t have a problem with that.
What I do have a problem with is that there’s no new insight or idea. There have been a million and one SUV ads with stop signs, traffic lights etc. in the wilderness, one of the most famous by Jeep about 15 years ago. Now we have google maps, so there’s a new visual way to say the same thing. Nothing new. The jeep campaign from BBDO in Kuala Lumpur 2 years ago shows there is still something new out there. See below. http://www.bestadsontv.com/ad/15012/Jeep-Husky–Camel
But hey, at the end of the day, the consumer doesn’t really care about a 15 year old One Show do they?
I love that u sad fucks have spent your weekend commenting on this work,
it must really get up your arses, ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha !! ! to be honest who gives a fuck. Enjoy your long weekends, losers
Seeing as the creatives concerned are sure to be reading this, along with their CD no doubt, surely it would be in your best interests to shut all the haters up. Just for once.
Just name the magazine (or major national newspaper) they’re running in and we’ll all apologise immediately.
It’s easy.
Just a single name to absolve Saatchi & Saatchi.
In the event that no magazine (or major national newspaper) is named, I think we can safely say that the blog will come to its own conclusions about the very nature of this campaign.
So, assuming the worst, a few words of advice:
a) If you HAVE to do work like this, make it world class, not just back door Aussie level.
b) As said above, the repetition of an image doesn’t make a campaign.
c) You might want to check before running an image that implies a tacit connection to Google Street View. The implication that they’ve given you permission to use their imagery (and therefore Google are indorsing Toyota) is incredibly brave of you.
Unless, of course, it’s all real.
Then you don’t have anything to worry about.
Are you guys serious? Honestly, 38 comments for this?!? There’s an awesome documentary on the biological diversity of the world’s alpine regions, yeah on the ABC now.
A bit of advice to all those naysayer anonymous cocks, why don’t you own up to who you really are, then perhaps the Saatchi guys might give a toss and tell you where the ads are appearing. Or perhaps you’d rather hedge your bets and stay anonymous so you don’t burn your bridges when you’re interviewed by Backie. Take a leaf out of my book and only comment on stuff when you’re brave enough to put your cock on the block with your name written on it ( in 3pt type, so that it fits on to your small appendage). Also, as Old CD guy pointed out, there have been plenty of ads that have featured no product. it’s hardly revolutionary stuff, having no product in an ad! Take your heads out of your butts and check out any of the award shows for the past 20 years. In fact, in these modern times with the advent of the interweb, an ad with no car is even more apt, as it’s there to intrigue and drive the consumer to the website where they can check out any angle of the car, in any colour, with their choice of bull-bar and wheels… fuck me, anonymous guys, this is 101 stuff, get back to school, or shut up until you have some points worth making. Skip (Yep, that’s where your name goes, at the end of something you’ve written.)
2:09
Pretty well on the mark, but car or not, we’re all doing the hard yards day in day out. For a team to Getty Image three visuals and run them in a single Toyota dealership is simply jumping the queue.
2:08
Agree with you too.
Errrr, okay, Min, the full name is Scot ‘Skip’ Waterhouse… how about your full name, and while you’re at it, why not own up to the posts that were yours, so that Backie knows who you are when you front up with your book! Cock on block, please. ‘Skip’

As well as the naysayers (or realists as I prefer to call them) it would seem that the publications in which these ads are appearing also wish to stay anonymous.
Don’t talk crap about if we put our name there that someone would therefore tell us where they ran and more particularly that they won’t answer an honest question just because it’s posed anonymously.
I say that these ads are Scams, until someone posts to say they’ve seen them in a proper mag.
I love the smell of hate in the mornings…
Why in the world would you think the boys at Saatchis would feel the need to justify anything they ever do to a couple of hateful Anonymous cocks on this blog?
I wouldn’t, but I would splishy splashy splishy splashy around in the neverending waves of hate, enjoying the fact that anything I ever did caused a handful of cocks
so much pain that they would have to resort to using this blog to bring on the wave of hate. Just saying.
Happy days.
The fact it’s the only campaign worth talking about for ages, says a lot.
Looks great, does a good job for the brand.
Get a life you lot – or do something better yourselves??
Oh, that’s right all you can do is bitch, not create!
Re the comment @ 11:02
Ah yes, I recognise that scene from a movie, but it’s not Apocalypse Now. No I’m thinking it’s something out of… Invictus, or hang on, maybe it was Blood Diamond? I’m not sure, but there’s definitely a familiar domineering accent there. Just saying. 😉
@8:48 Oct 1, since you’re clearly long on bile but short on facts, let me assist with your education. Indeed, the Barry Humphries work for Avalon was not my finest hour, bedevilled as it was by the many compromises that all of us have to see our work suffer at one time or another. But perhaps more importantly, that work won an $8 million piece of business for Saatchis and was praised by Toyota’s National Marketing Director, the notoriously dour and difficult -to-please Peter Webster as one of the top 4 launches in Toyota history at the time. I was at Saatchi’s for 4 years, from 1997. And you are…?
Come on fella’s, it’s a fucking ad.
Lighten up.
I’d stick it in my book and I don’t think anyone here disagrees with that.
Well done Saatchi’s, fuck the jealous wannabes. If my small penis experience is anything to go by, the more hate, the more it’s great.
This is an ad (x 3) that can only work on a captive, interested audience, like us here. As a mag DPS, it will be flicked over. As a half page press ad, it will not be noticed. This is an ad (x 3) designed for the ad industry. Fuck, whatever happened to the 1/3 of a second rule? That’s all the time you’ve got to hook real punters, or you’re dead. Pretty, though.
I am sick of everyone labeling good work as scam! says:
man this industry is about trying to come up with good ideas, not about doing shitty retail work which pays the bills!
I don’t care what the car looks like, i can go see that when i go to the dealer to buy it because i saw this awesome ad!
If we can’t be creative we might as well be monkeys!!!
6:41 This industry is about creativity and always has been. Creativity designed to sell shit. Post GFC the focus on the Selling Shit part has become a little more important. Selling shit keep us in jobs and keeps agencies open. Losing sight of this fact means clients will walk (DJ’s is one that comes to mind in regards to your agency)
As a result, the days of 500 international Judges getting sent to Cannes to judge work that was seen by 50 people – in some Retail store, are limited. Do you see the irony there?
Besides, I don’t think this ad is the best example of pure creativity. Where’s the magic?
I feel like I’ve seen the same thing a hundred times before. And street view has reached saturation point, it’s just not interesting.

Very well executed, nice and simplistic – brilliant idea.

Missed opportunity to do it for real… Although that would require a real budget.
