A car commercial.
Amazing location
Great cinematography (see above)
Terrible 90s graphics
Generic Voiceover & Idea
and the ugliest Liberty ever made! How could Subaru go so wrong after their spot-on styling from the mid 90s to the mid 00s??
looks stunning, nice location shoot boys.
if you’re in to 1980’s car adverts, well done.
looks good brendan
What boring ad, you could substitute any car logo at the end.
And the idea is?
Where are all the people slapping the driver in the invisible car on the arse? I thought that was supposed to be new brand direction?
I like the honesty. Better then all the scam ads combined
A wasted brand.
Predictable locations: Check.
‘Car Ad’ grading applied: Check.
Generic voice over: Check.
Use of “Comes as standard” cliche: Check.
Slow-mo reaction shot: Check.
Sigh.
A big yawn..
What a Sterling idea.
Shame on you.
Wasted opportunity.
I think they got the credits wrong. I’d have put the client down as Writer, Art Director, Creative Director. This looks like car ad by numbers, its a little sad after such a great leap forward with the last crowd rider spot.
Weak idea. Cliche. Boring. Surely there was something else you could have thought of?
What a waste of a really exciting brand. They have some serious product benefits, with renegade-brand potential, and they produce televisual wallpaper like this? Come on client, take the handbrake off.
quick, call XVRescue
Superbly shot. Well done Bren.
“Hey, looks like Leos have put a subaru ad on the blog, pretty ballsy, but must be alright for them to throw it up.
Right lets have a look, shall we.
Alpine helicopter shot following car. Nice. Voice over by that kinda husky guy who sounds like my neighbour the lawyer who lets me borrow his ladder. Trustworthy stuff so far. Hey, the old sped up slow down thing, and then the head turn slowmo from the cool urban guy holding a latte. Must be something good to come, a little twist to reward me for sitting through this ad that every other car company has done. Oh, there it is, the line ‘confidence comes as standard”.
well done to all involved.
Nice pics B
Thanks for the beer too 🙂
Let’s not forget that ad guru Todd was involved in this. Wonder how his fellow Gruen panelists would rate this?
@ 2.48PM
Are you in account service?
9.34, are you capable of understanding sarcasm?
Short note to the Subaru Clients:
Why would you spend so much money on such wallpaper?
Predictable, expected, generic ads like this are just too easy to ignore.
You have a very good product – now please have the confidence to do something DIFFERENT to the category expectations. Not different for the sake of being different, but be willing to take a bit of risk by talking to consumers in a way that appeals to them and endears them to your brand and products.
Imagine being the marketing team that was responsible for really taking your brand to new heights?!
This kind of advertising will not do that.
I hope sales reflect that.
You’ve missed an opportunity.
@10:29
I worked at Leo’s years ago and it was the same battle then.
You couldn’t be more right.
Luckily for them the cars sell themselves.
They have almost gone shot for shot on the old stuff Jeff Darling shot way back when.
Can’t help feel the client gave a directive on this one,
knocking back a shit load of good work in the process.
spot on 4.44.
fair enough, we all do these client written ads, just don’t put the fuckers up here. duh.
@ 9.34am
It sounded sarcastic until “well done to all involved”
wouldn’t you agree?
Nice to see you’re doing really exciting stuff post-Clems Cam
3:49am is spot on. Todd is happy to harshly critique nearly every ad on Gruen but then they go produce this.
Clems is doing equally as boring work for beer.
lost for a word
arrgghhh how can people seriously do that rampy slomo shit anymore!!!!!
it was only just cool in the 90’s. as for the rest of it….yawn.
Todd I’m sure you are reading this.
Have the balls to put this spot up on the GT.
You won’t because it’s a pile of dull boring ill concieved 1980’s crap.
Now…shut the fark up about other people’s ads.
Please could somebody tell me where this ad was shot.
Generic ad, superbly shot. Congrads to the crew. Client- get out the box.
Thanks
