Four’N Twenty stages a Scottish invasion – workers cop eyeful of a man’s “meat and two veg”
CB Exclusive – Clemenger BBDO, Melbourne has launched a campaign for Four’N Twenty’s new Legendary Angus Beef Pies. Createdby Julian Schreiber and Tom Martin, they unearthed a little-known factthat in the past, Scots have actually never been very welcome onAustralian building sites. It’s not personal of course, but merely theinevitable result of their uniform of choice – the Scottish kilt.
THE LAUNCH SPOT takes us through a building site populated with bothhardworking Aussies and Scottish builders. And it’s here that we havethe opportunity to witness the many pitfalls of the Scots wearing theirtraditional dress. A bend over here, a bit of jackhammering there andsuddenly the Australian builders are copping more than an eyeful of aman’s “meat and two veg”. A sight that could potentially scar these menfor life.
Ant Keogh, executive creative director of ClemengerBBDO, Melbourne, says the campaign builds on Four’N Twenty’s sense ofhumour. “Four’N Twenty understand their consumers and know that takinglife too seriously is not the way to sell meat pies,” he said.

The people responsible should be knighted. Truly great, incredible. Wonderful.
very funny! that tim bullock sure can direct comedy, can’t he?
Is that what that gristle is?
I never write LOL, ever. But I just have.
Very good.
Immature. Childish. Offensive to Scottish People.
Genius.
Can somebody please stop those boys at clems. They look like they’re having way too much fun. Well done. Top spot!
funny for australia
Well done Sirs. Even my mo’ is celebrating.
“Use your knees!”
Brilliant.
nice idea. i don’t find it massively funny though.
Hilarious….great work.
But but but but there’s no ‘meat and two veg’ joke. WTF?
…K.
nice one tom and jules.
Sure, don’t take life too seriously but shouldn’t there be some relevance in there?
Absolute ripper!
Mediocrity. Go to any Highlanders game and see all the meat and two veg you need.
Could’ve been funnier. It falls a bit flat for me. Nice though.
Hoot’s mon. Nice one lads.
“I haven’t see TV that good since Archie Gemmill scored against Holland in 1978!”
wow. Clems folk, try to be a bit more subtle when you load the blog with glowing praise for your own work. It’s a nice spot, but please…
Funny.
I think blokes who eat pies will love it.
Mainly because I’m a bloke, and I eat pies.
Not as good as the earlier comments led me to believe. Genius? Truly Great? Nah, but pretty bloody good.
Awesome. Well Done. A brilliant idea that is well executed. And for once…. no Haters on this blog!
…it’s only a matter of time though. I am sure that eventually some wanker will come in and say… “How unoriginal, they have just poached an idea from this” and link some random Goodies or Benny Hill episode from 1978… but they can go fuck themselves.
Now… can someone explain why everyone is bringing out an Angus version of their product?
Meat.
Fill your boots man!
Well done!!!
Brilliant!
@10.04
It is relevant. Angus was originally a Scottish breed.
Pretty funny this, and well filmed.
QUITE SWEET, BUT LET’S FACE IT, A JOKE ABOUT SCOTSMEN NOT WEARING ANYTHING UNDER THEIR KILTS??? IT’S NAE GROUNDBREAKING IS IT.
If mick hunter likes it then it’s ok to laugh. love it. well done.
as a Scot called Angus prone to wearing a kilt – I love it!
Actually, now that I look at the credits, a director with the name Bullock is also rather appropriate to the subject of cattle, meat, etc
It’s quite a funny spot BUT I doubt most Aussie pie eaters (read working-class) would have a clue that Angus is a Scottish breed of beef cattle or that Angus is a Scottish name. The only Angus those meatheads would be aware of is the bloke in the school uniform who plays lead guitar in ACDC.
Suddenly because of McDonald’s pioneering work in the fast-food field, everyone in low-rent food is doing Angus, which your average idiot would at best have some sort of vague notion has connotations of better quality.
And that’s about the extent of it.
Yet, depressingly, none of that matters to the yobs this product is aimed at because they don’t analyse strategy: they’ll get a laugh out of the no-knickers nothing-under-the-kilt Scottish and worksite cliches.
That’s something they CAN understand.
@12:19 thanks mate. would of never of known that the angus was a scottish breed but now i know and now the angry angus spot for hungary jacks makes more sense.
Nice work. An ad that’s not overly complicated, just enjoyable to watch and true to brand. I’m tipping the punters will love it.
Bring on the Meat.
It’s pretty good, a nice connection to a scottish product but all the gags are ‘oops there’s a cock and balls. Might have been nice to have some other gags in there.
11:53 – are we really using the word ‘haters’ in this country? Really? I thought it was for American douchebags/rappers.
Awesome spot by the way. I can’t help but wonder how ‘Angus’ is being de-valued as a brand by fast-food connotations.
Hungary Jacks, 1:36? Is that a Hungarian Goulash takeaway chain?
And it’s ‘would have’, not ‘would of’.
Im off pies…..can stop thinking Ill find a ginger pube in amongst the meat and veg….
I’m jealous. Nice spot. I would have thought Scottish was the first thing you think of when you mention Angus beef. Isn’t Angus to Scotland like Sven is to Sweden?
Clems Melb continuing to kill it. Well done.
I didnt know Angus was a Scottish breed. I do now though and I have this piss funny spot to thank
The people at Clems Melb are truely amazing for coming up with this. They are without doubt the worlds greatest geniuses. Amazing. I have just fainted.
Funny spot. Love it lots. Nice job Clems Melb and well done to all. Hey Grant, bet you secretly wished you’d stayed. Best get back to Coles. Hahaha.
Brilliant, Ant and the team have done it again.
1:20 PM – Most working class people should know, especially if you consider cattle farmers or anyone that knows their beef working class. Every tradie I’ve met knows more about the beef on their barbie than we would, probably because they knock off at 4 and have time to do life stuff, like go to the butcher.
And if the working class don’t understand, they now have a thing called google.
It’s also not a recent trend – The top restaurants have served Angus instead of Wagyu for years, it’s not as chewy and has a very masculine beefy flavour. Personally I’d prefer to eat Kangaroo, but people are still a little squeamish about that one.
As a matter of fact, on the subject of Angus from AC/DC, that kind of explains the bagpipe player on the back of the truck in that famous film clip of the band.
I must admit, I’ve seen that clip many times but never made the connection.
7:46 cheap shot and not deserved. Save your bile for people who deserve it.

Meaningless trivia: Bon Scott played the pipes on that track and was Scottish himself :o)
Am sure the Young brothers were Scottish at some stage in the past, but like every other legend, born in Ausrailya.
Oh Clems, Oh Clems, Oh Clems…..Oh no, I did it again.
Seriously, keep a lid on it Clems people.
Can’t help but think that the only thing “killing it” here is all the voiceover explaining what I’m seeing.
Would’ve been nice just to let it play and end with “The only Angus welcome on an Aussie worksite” or some such simplicity. You get a sense that maybe the client grabbed hold of this one and made them explain everything. Shame.
Bollocks. Lots of them!
Jules, have my baby’s
I can’t believe there are ‘creatives’ out there who’ve never made at least a passing connection between Angus beef and Scotland, or even worse, those AC-DC surnames and Scotland. What ever happened to good old-fashioned deduction? Go on, put down the iPads, kids, and have a wild stab at it. Here, try this little exercise at home. Just cancel out the common elements:
Angus = SCOTTISH
SOME MEAT = Angus
BON SCOTT = Bagpipes
Bagpipes = SCOTTISH
C’mon, it’s not exactly a quantum leap. Jesus, Bon even gave you a pretty good hint with HIS surname!
@9:32
Have your baby’s WHAT?
Surely you meant: “…have my babies.”
Good stuff, but not as good as The Swan St pie shop. It’s awesome. The lady behind the counter is a little dismissive but it kind of adds to the enjoyment. She makes you eat the pie with a bit more aggression, which really does add to the taste. Mmm can you see me? I’m smashing this pie, dismissive counter lady! Smas-shing it.
When these boys do ‘smart work’ I am impressed.
When they try and do ‘funny’ I am less so. Stick with smart.
Just an observation.
Pu-leeeeease. Scotsmen naked under their kilts?… Innuendo?… Not since I was in year 8 sir.
Not at all funny.
