Australia’s Cannes Contenders: Saatchi & Saatchi, Sydney and GPY&R, Melbourne
After last year’s brilliant effort at Cannes – Australia was ranked #6 in the world -how will OZ perform at Cannes this year? Over the next two weeks in thelead up to the Festival, Campaign Brief will be showcasing the work wehope will impress the judges…
Saatchi & Saatchi, Sydney
A two minute TVC fromSaatchi & Saatchi Australia for Toyota Australia’s rural &workhorse 4WD range. Nothing soft gets in. The spot first aired duringlast year’s AFL Grand Final.
Saatchi & Saatchi, Sydney
The spot dramatizes HSD technology, which unites a petrol engine andan electric motor in perfect harmony. Shot in a single take thespot uses no special effects or post. This required a choreographerworking for 10 days straight with the two dancers. They rehearsed untilthe movements were correct and timed perfectly to 55 seconds.
GPY&R, Melbourne
A frigate, a transport and a submarine were shot on location by topphotographer Andreas Smetana at HMAS Albatross using hundreds of menand women who crew these vessels. The campaign ran nationally in newspapers, magazines, outdoor and included an interactive website.
GPY&R, Melbourne
The fully-integrated campaign directs people to www.itsnopicnic.tvwhere they can build their own TV commercial. The websiteallows them to upload their film (or record themselves using webcam),edit their footage, choose one of 50 pre-recorded Voice Overs andpersonalise it by including their name, of which around 1,400individual names were recorded. Once finished they submit their ad forapproval, with the best ones being selected and aired on nationaltelevision.
GPY&R, Melbourne
‘Get a Guernsey’ offered a once in a lifetimeopportunity for two fans: the chance to be named in the official sidefor the round 5 clash versus Brisbane. The struggling AFL club broke new ground for membership drives andinvited fans not to just support the team, but to actually be in theteam.

All of these should find some metal. Quality work from quality shops.
Saatchi & Patts Melb are always strong performers. Not many years when they don’t put a lion or two in the foyer.
Border Security, Silver.
Navy,Silver.
Picnic, a bronze or two.
What about the new Coles work. ‘Down, down, prices are down’ featuring the people with big red hands????
Perhaps it didn’t run in time to qualify for entry.
navy silver. laugh out loud.
navy bronze.
The guernsey is the only thing there I’m not a fan of. Navy and Border Security are both quality pieces from Oz.
I believe the kids say “Lawl”.
Navy would do well if it felt fresh or if it created a compelling reason to join up, which is pretty doubtful.
Sorry. I dont think any of these will win anything other than bronze
if that is the best from oz this year, then no lions.com
Navy, nobel peace prize, or academy award, perhaps, if lucky may get the gold at the next winter olympics……
Comon guys, get your hand off it, the only ppl that know what this will get is the 35 ppl in a dark room wishing they were on the beach
One word.
MAMMOTH MAMMOTH!

looks like someone at jwt has this t shirt, or maybe it’s steve’s.
Silver & Silver
Navy is a little to close to the tide campaign from saatchi with the bottles forming the boats. To similar for this judge.
Good luck Tim Bullock.
Bickle.
Go BOWMAN!
What has Bowman done? Am I missing something?
Border Security, like Pure Waters, bears repeat viewing. Not only that, they both actually reward you for watching the tenth time. Not sick of either.
THAT is the mark of a bloody good TVC imo. Boags a definite gold, Border Security a solid silver, may even do better than that.
Don’t like the MFC stuff at all. Compare it to some of the stuff that comes out of the States with a similar vibe (integrating normal people into the dynamic of the team) and it looks decidedly third-rate.
Border security is a quality spot. I’m tipping gold.
Not sure about the others.
