Calling fit Cannes delegates: Represent Australia in the Cannes Lions Beach Scoccer World Cup

In honour of the World Cup taking place at the same time as CannesLions 2010, a Cannes Lions Beach Soccer World Cup will be organised,sponsored by EuroSport.

Competition dates are Tuesday June 22 from 12.30pm – 2.30pm, followed by finals and play offs on Wednesday June 23,1pm – 5.30pm. Teams will play five a side beach football, with thewinners being awarded their World Cup Trophy at the Press, Design andCyber Lions Awards Ceremony on Wednesday evening.

The tournament will feature a minimum of 16 teams made up ofdelegates from around the globe, with each team representing theircountry. Teams will be split into four groups for the first round, withthe top two teams in each group moving to the knockout phases. 

The draw forthe Cannes Lions Beach Soccer World Cup has now been released andAustralia will fight it out against Russia, Mexico and Spain for achance to progress through to the quarter finals and beyond.

Organisers believe Australia ‘s advertising industry’s recent formand unseasonably longer summer conditions may give them an advantageand are well poised for an upset. Another significant advantage forAustralia is the high propensity of Englishman currently living downunder. Organisers believe the rare combination of home grown British and European talent mixed with Australian bravado and hot summernights will make them the surprise package of the tournament.
