Effie Awards attract record number of entries
The 2010 Australian Effie Awards have attracted 154 entries from agencies and clients, representing an 18% increase from 131 entries in 2009.
The Awards are a joint presentation by The Communications Council and the Australian Association of National Advertisers (AANA) in association with Telstra. The gala dinner to announce and celebrate the winners is confirmed for Thursday, 26th August.
“Last year was the inaugural year for The Australian Effie Awards and we were very pleased with the 131 entries we attracted then. To have received 154 entries this year is just fantastic and a huge vote of confidence in the Effies,” said the Chairman of The Australian Effie Awards, Matthew Melhuish.
“It’s all part of building a positive culture of effectiveness in marketing and advertising communications in Australia. This is so important to get right and it is terrific to see clients and agencies responding in the way that they have. We’ve got a big job for the judges to do and the Awards presentation on Thursday 26th August is going to be a very exciting night”, he said.
The entries, across 17 categories, will now go through a first round of judging with finalists announced on June 1, followed by a second round to decide the winners.

I’ve heard Bammercise is very effective because you can still get the benefits of exercise even though you are cleaning less.
These used to fairly important awards to win, but now they just hand them out.
Someone admitted at the launch that they’ll try to ensure as many awards are given out as possible to encourage everyone.
Effectiveness? Sounds more like Encouragment Awards from under 10’s soccer.
And therefore now just another pointless bit of metal.
The AFA used to be important. They were focused and fought for agencies. They built their own effectiveness awards brand that was only handed out every 2 years.
Now they’re called something that sounds like a dodgy consultancy, they represent everyone and now hold the rebranded ‘Effies’ every year in a cash grab to boost the coffers. Shame.

305 702 1029 You guys are gooses of the highest order. Encouraging effective, rather than creative work is what we should be doing. Agree? (…and yes there is a strong correlation between the two)
Planner Creative Dude, think you’ve missed the point (which is possibly not an unsual occurance).
No one is dissing awarding effectiveness awards, just how the AFA/TCC now goes about it.
Now go back to drawing up some diagrams to retrospectively support creative AND effective ideas
Actually I don’t agree “Planner Creative”… (Is that what is printed on your business card? I bet not.)
Let me guess, you are a planner who is frustrated that they’re not a creative and fuck with the creative process because, well, you can. You’re smarter and you practically crack the idea for the creatives and would have on the last brief any way, if only you’d had time.
Here’s a tip. Real creatives don’t do powerpoint preso’s.
“Encouraging effective rather than creative work” says it all. Good creative work is effective. Harvey Norman is also effective. You decide, or better still, hold a group and let them decide what sort of work you want to be involved with.
You are the goose.
