BCM Sydney creative director Geoff Reid leaves as agency shifts key clients to Brisbane
BCM Sydney creative director Geoff Reid is set to leave the agency within the month as the agency scales back its Sydney office, shifting key clients to its Brisbane headquarters. Whether the agency will close the doors of its Sydney office is yet to be decided, according to Paul Cornwell, managing director of BCM Sydney, who said they are currently assessing their options.
Cornwell, a founding partner of the agency, along with Bill Bristow and Kevin Moreland, previously split his responsibility between the Sydney and Brisbane offices, but will now focus on Brisbane, where he was always based, flying between the two markets. The Brisbane-based agency opened a Sydney office in May 2008.
“We’ve decided to shift the management of a couple of the key accounts back to Brisbane for a whole bunch of reasons. Naturally, there are people attached to those accounts who will be moving on. Whether we make a decision to close the office is another story we are thinking about,” Cornwell told CB.
The reason for moving the accounts back to Brisbane is driven by a number of internal reasons, which will remain confidential. Cornwell could not name the clients affected by the move, but said they are delighted with the idea. He also could not say how many Sydney staff would be made redundant.
Reid became the Sydney creative director in May 2009 having joined BCM Brisbane in October 2008. As well as his role as CD, he continued to partner with senior art director Tony Sutton, managing the creative requirements for BCM’s Sydney accounts including Radio Rentals, bigbrownbox.com.au, Surf Life Saving Australia, New South Wales Rural Fire Service, Pelikan Artline and Sunbeam Foods. Prior to joining BCM he worked at Leo Burnett, Batey Kazoo, The Campaign Place, JWT and Human.

It’s a shit of a business. Greid is good, and I recall Cornwell as a funny bastard.
Met him once. Nice guy. Good luck with things.
Greidy’s one of the best, I know he’ll land on his feet.
Geoff Reid didn’t leave. The agency did.
I too would be ‘delighted with the idea’ of my Sydney agency being based in Brisbane from now on. Far easier.
Time for that beer Griedy?
Shit can happen to anyone in this business, but give credit where it’s due.
I hadn’t even heard of BCM before Griedy posted some really nice work for Artline here.
And I believe the Radio Rentals campaign he did was one of their most successful ever.
Griedy is a great guy who speaks his mind without sounding like a complete twat when he does.
Great guy, great creative, made his mark as a Creative Director and one of the funniest guys you’ll ever meet – what more could an agency want?
Yes,
as I also saw it 1:29am (dont people sleep?) was right when he/she said
“Geoff Reid didn’t leave. The agency did.”
Geoff will definitely bounce back, not sure about BCM.
That was never going to work. There are not many examples of local Independant shops being able to make an office in another city work.
It’s usually the egos of the names on the door that drive it, but they soon work out it wasn’t worth the cost. A bit like a “mid-life crisis Porsche”.
What a bizarre and misleading press release. The agency hired useless suits and had poor management and it fell apart. Everyone has to leave. Greidy included.
Thank god. More chance for me to work with him.
Geoff. Unworry.
Any agency would be lucky to have you working for them.
Anyone got Geoff’s mobile?
Paul? Mark?
He’s at geoff@greidisgood.com.au
I’m very sorry to hear about this Geoff.
I’m sure there’ll be plenty of agencies knocking on your door.
The water is 20 degrees.
The sun is shining.
Make the most of it Geoff you’ll be working hard enough again soon, I’m sure.
Cheers Buddy.
