8com goes Feb Free for Tanzanian students

For the month of February the staff at top Sydney TVC production company, 8com and friends are giving up some of their worst vices to help raise money for some underprivileged students in Tanzania.

The School of St Jude was set up in 2002 by Gemma Sisia (pictured with students), from a sheep farm in Australia, with the help of her family, friends and local Rotary Club. What started with only a handful of children and one teacher is now in 2010 a thriving school of almost 1300 children and 350 staff.

The School of St. Jude is a sponsorship-supported English Medium Schoolin Tanzania, that primarily serves orphaned and vulnerable childrenfrom the lowest socio-economic backgrounds. Over 90% of the children atthe school receive a totally free education, as local and internationalsponsors individually cover the costs of not only the educational fees,but also the uniform, stationery, transport, hot meals, snacks anddrinks of each child. What makes this school even more special is thefact that this success comes about due to the group effort of thousandsof ordinary people from all over the world coming together to dosomething quite extraordinary.

Every day staff and students work hard to fulfill the school’sphilosophy of “Fighting Poverty through Education” helping theirstudents break the cycle of poverty that has gripped their families forgenerations.

This is 8com’s first year doing Feb Free and their target is to raise$15,000 in its inaugural year for the school. Ideally they are hopingnext year to get a lot more of the advertising industry involved andraise even more money.
