It’s 2022 and MIA is arguably still the most exclusive club in advertising – despite the very best efforts of Thinkerbell’s Regina Stroombergen, founder of MIA.

Says Stroombergen: “Both advertising and motherhood can be pretty tough all on their own, so it’s no wonder there are so few women left standing at the centre of this particularly spicy Venn diagram.”

With an increased focus on inclusivity and diversity within all aspects of the industry, the mum-exodus is a conversation that is moving up on the industry agenda.

Says Alt/Shift’s Julia Spencer, co-founder of MIA: “Many women have had to MacGyver their way through our industry’s gender imbalance just to spawn into its motherhood abyss. This is why a network like MIA is so important.”

Still in its infancy, MIA is looking to recruit more members for its third ever meet-up, next week.

Adds Stroombergen: “The pool of candidates is sadly much smaller than it should be, which is kind of the whole point. MIA meet-ups aim to bring us together, expand our networks and nut-out how we can make the industry more inclusive for both current and future mums. All whilst masterfully avoiding the evening chaos of dinner, bath and bed.”
