Spark launches new emotionally-charged ‘Wedding Speech’ film via Colenso BBDO
NZ telco Spark has launched a new film called ‘Wedding Speech’ via Colenso BBDO, Auckland continuing its ‘Little Can Be Huge’ series.
It tells the story of the months leading up to a wedding. An already emotional time is complicated by the sudden hospitalisation of the bride’s father. As it unfolds, the film looks at the powerful connection between a father and daughter, their shared optimism, and a wedding gift made possible by everyday technology.
Says Aussie expat Levi Slavin, CCO, Colenso BBDO: “We made this film to remind Kiwis that the technology in our lives can help create profoundly human moments. At their best, our devices can help us be more human.”
Directed by Christopher Riggert at FINCH, ‘Wedding Speech’ juxtaposes the audio from the wedding day celebration with pictures showing the often-fraught journey running up to the big day. The technique highlights the wide range of emotions that are a hallmark of every close relationship, blending happiness and sadness to create something textured and real.
Says Sarah Williams, brand experience tribe lead, Spark: “Spark is a digital services company – we put connected devices with incredible cameras in the pockets of New Zealanders around the country. This video reminds us that the amazing technology we all use every day is there for one reason: to connect us and bring people closer to each other.”
The film will run on TV, online and in cinema.

While the ending was obvious from the beginning, it didn’t stop this being another lovely piece from Colenso. Beautifully directed. Great talent. Lovely ad. They are hitting it out of the park for Spark.
Tears.
What a beautiful spot and very relatable for me.
Congratulations all involved xx
thanks i’m crying at my desk like an idiot
Bloody hell. I’m blubbing.
Well done all.
“Leave nothing unsaid” is a cracker.
This ad is clearly better than the previous disgusting ad made by spark. The Fathers day ad is insulting to the good fathers which cant be in their kids lives because of false accusations by the selfish mum. On average 21 men per week in aussie commit suicide because of custody battles. (Nz no stats). Dads are often called dead beat…. their fathers say ad celebrates mum on fathers day. Played the ad mothers day and any other day. Sometimes dozens of times a day. No mention of where the father was. I.e. if dead or overseas, spark would have done a Skype call or at least looked at a photo. When I complained to spark. They fobbed me off and said they didnt care what I thought, they would keep on playing it. Too.many Dads are keeped out of their kids lives because of a vindictive mum. Who uses her ‘mum card’ to isolate and therefore abuse the kids and dad from making up lies.
I hope you’re okay. You’ve clearly been through quite an ordeal. You should probably try talking to someone. Life is really unjust for a lot of people right now in a lot of ways. the challenge for you right now is to use your experience to do something positive. Best of luck.
Man, you really are a sad little man, aren’t you? If that previous Spark ad caused this much of a reaction then it says something negative about you, not the ad.
