Sam Cable: Serviceplan, Hamburg Diary #9
Sam Cable is a copywriting student at Miami Ad School Sydney, currently interning at European ad agency Serviceplan, Hamburg as part of her portfolio course.
By the time you start reading this week’s article, my art director, Rafael Martins and I will have finished our time with the Serviceplan innovation team. During the last three months, we have had the opportunity to ideate with some of the most talented, young creatives in Europe.
On a day-to-day basis, Rafael and I worked under the guidance of Maximilian Schöngen (creative strategist), alongside Miami Ad School graduates: Azim Abasbek (junior art director), Kostia Liakhov (junior art director) and Rohan Fernandes (junior copywriter). Their determination, insights and imagination, have pushed the boundaries of what we thought possible in the advertising world.
This internship also provided the opportunity to create ideas for international briefs. Frequently Rafael and I reported to executive creative director of Serviceplan, Korea, Bill Yom. It was rewarding to work with an array of nationalities when pitching across global audiences. A highlight of the internship was contributing to the winning campaign for a technology start-up company. P.S. Bill, if you are reading this, I heard South Korea might be on the look out for a new junior copywriter.
In the evening Rafael and I took classes at the Hamburg base school. One class required us to pitch every week to form an integrated campaign. The subject was led by Christoph Nann (executive creative director) of Serviceplan, Hamburg. It was beneficial to learn from a copy-driven ECD for developing my headline writing skills.
If you have been keeping up with the Rafael’s Internship Facts, the following are a collation from previous weeks. For me, they are the single most important takeaways from this experience:
1. Ideas Come First
2. Multitasking
3. Always Deliver More Than Expected
4. Never Give Up
5. Silence Is Golden
6. Time Is Of The Essence.
As I graduate at the end of next quarter, I am looking forward to documenting my final spirit as a student. See you on the flipside, Campaign Brief.
Three more months to go.
