Sam Cable: Cutwater, San Francisco Diary #8

| | No Comments

Cutwater interns copy.jpgSam Cable is a copywriting student at Miami Ad School Sydney, currently interning at top US creative ad agency Cutwater, San Francisco as part of her portfolio course.

Today is my last morning in the Cutwater office. Spending my days decorating the space above other people’s computers with cheesy jokes and puns have definitely been a highlight. I have written over 100 headlines for an equestrian riding boot company and worked on one of the biggest technology companies in the world. The opportunity to conduct interviews with the strategy and creative team has also made my time here invaluable. The following are five of my favourite advice snippets from previous weeks:

1.    Be more buttoned-up than you think you are. – Matt Kabus

2.    Rejection sucks. But it sucks for a reason. You can learn from it. – Mike Butler

3.    Any writer who claims they hate puns is a liar. – David Zandman

4.    Find a way to entertain me now. Entertain me quickly. – Justin Reagan

5.    Always remind yourself that you have one of the most fun jobs in the world! – Molly Johnson

Copywriting duo Javed and Sam copy.jpgMy teammates here have made the last 10 weeks memorable. Special shout out to Javed, my stunning photographer for the Cutwater Diaries. Copywriter through and through, he can still take a damn good photo complete with comedic timing and expert modelling advice. Quoting him directly: “The longer you’ve been in the industry, the better at Ping Pong you are”.

My next stop is Germany. I have been fortunate enough to be selected for the Innovation Team in Service Plan, Hamburg. Keep your eye out for the Service Plan Diaries, early July. For more haikus, follow me at @TheSamCable

Cutwater finished,

Where should Sam set sail next?

That is a deep thought.
