Spotlight on Women Directors: Anna Ginsburg
As part of a regular series with Free The Bid Australia, Campaign Brief shines the spotlight on top female commercials directors in Australia and New Zealand…
Anna Ginsburg is an animation director represented by Passion Pictures Australia.
Three best spots:
1. ‘What is Beauty?‘ a personal film I managed to get commissioned by CNN which was released on International Women’s Day 2018 and got over 15 million hits.
2. ‘Selfridges and Sustainability‘ this is the latest spot for Selfridge which I co-directed with Hannah Jacobs. It was released a few months and we thoroughly enjoyed making it.
3. ‘Material World‘ an animated documentary on eco fashion commissioned by Selfridges. This was screened at festivals worldwide. It won best 2D animation at the British Arrows 2017 and best commissioned film on the year at Annecy 2017.
Born and raised in London, Anna Ginsburg is a filmmaker with a diverse range of talents. Anna specialises in combining different techniques and approaches, working across traditional hand drawn 2D, stop-motion, digital imagery and live-action. Anna’s first music video for Bombay Bicycle Club’s ‘How Can You Swallow So Much Sleep?‘ won a Bafta at the New Talent Awards. Since then Anna has received incredible praise for her film ‘Private Parts‘, which was screened at film festivals worldwide. Recently Anna has directed a short film for Selfridges ‘Material World‘ exploring sustainable fashions for which she won ‘Best Commissioned film’ at Annecy and ‘Best 2D animation’ at the British Arrows. Her film ‘What is Beauty?‘ released this International Women’s Day was widely shared and received over 15 million hits.
Says Ginsburg: “I love animated documentary. Using real voice recorded interviews and animating the naturalistic human voices. I love working with music or sound as a starting point, using animation to heighten the musical experience or the clarity of the message. I specialise in traditional 2D animation but also enjoy mixing it with live-action; I have directed a few live-action music videos and thoroughly enjoy directing live-action and I have also made some stop-motion and cut-out work too.
“This is a perfect example of how much I love mixing techniques and styles (and was displayed at the V&A London)” – http://spintheaub.com/.
